The Royal Jelly surrounded by both Royal Minis and Jelly Cubes.

The Jelly king is a gelatinous cube about 5 times the dimensions of the basic pink cube, adorned with a white and purple crown on its top. It has the ability to spawn large quantities of Royal Mini pink cubes, and the occasional Jelly Cube.

Unlike normal slimes, the Jelly King is neutral to shadow attacks, and only has a slight resistance to piercing.

Monstrous Profile

Tread with caution when you enter the slime-covered halls of the Royal Jelly Palace. Recon Knights have gathered that this ancient, open-air castle has been overtaken by a legion of slimes, the most fearsome of which is a 'Jelly King.'

Like any unruly king, it has a short fuse and loves to throw its weight around. We cannot be certain under what lineage or authority this oozing aristocrat claims noble descent, but we would still caution those traveling in its palace to stay vigilant and come prepared with Poison vials and weapons, in addition to a full complement of knights!

Strategy

This giant dessert gone wild will try to prevent you from attacking it with a massive amount of minions that swarm you. He spawns in a small space at the top of the room. It's best to get a weapon that can cause poison or fire. Poison is best due to the fact that the royal gargantuan can and will sacrifice its smaller friends to heal itself. When it first appears, have a charged attack ready to be unleashed. The Royal Jelly is able to break the breakable walls and can also fire small Royal Mini jellies out.

A good armor set consists of defense against piercing, both in armor and shield. The Chroma and Virulisk sets are especially useful, as they give a damage bonus against Slimes.

Handguns are not very effective because other jellies will often block your shot. Run up and hack away, ignoring the other jellies and pausing only to shield when the Jelly King spins. Use weapons or vials to keep the Jelly King poisoned, cursed, and on fire at all times.

Tactics

The Jelly King attacks at regular intervals with a spinning attack, hitting everything near, and sending out various mini jellies, and heals at a normal rate during the fight. The best suggestion is to wait for an attack, hit him with a full swing of melee, then back off until his next attack. At low health, he will periodically Berserk (turn pink and spin around the area violently). During this time he is invulnerable, but he can't reach you in the 8 corners of the room and cannot heal until it's done. Beware though, the spiked jellies can and will attempt to shoot spikes at you, so keep your shield up. He will do 1 regular attack in between invulnerability / spinning timers.

Another tactic that's perhaps a bit more dangerous is to stand on the squares where the wall blocks constantly regenerate. This allows you to not get trapped by spawning blocks. If you stand on the square when one regenerates, it will deal damage to you -- but less damage than even one of the mini Jellies will do to you. Getting swarmed by these tiny blobs of terror often reduces your health before you can even react.

Weapons capable of inflicting poison or curse are helpful while fighting the Jelly King. Poison can effectively prevent the Jelly King from regenerating his health while curse can reduce the effectiveness of healing. Poison and Curse vials (obtainable in preceding floors) can take place of those weapons; however, it is harder to hit the boss due to the huge swarm of minis blocking the way.

NOTE: The Jelly King regenerates constantly, in amounts near 40 during a 4-man run or even close to that amount in a 2-man run. If you are dealing less than this in the amount of time he heals, you are fighting a losing battle. If he stops healing, he is at full health.

Drops

  • 1-5 Jelly Gems

Notes

  • A Recon Module can be obtained in front of the lift right after killing the Jelly King.
  • The Jelly King's health varies by the number of players in the party. Under some circumstances, he can be easier solo than in a group.
