A knight may wear one shield at any given time. Shields can be bought ready-made from Kragen in the Bazaar, and they are occasionally given as rewards for completing missions or collecting boss tokens. Usually, however, shields are crafted from recipes, just as other equippable items are.

A shield has health, damage defenses, and status defenses, just like a knight. When a shield is inactive, it has no effect; it does not passively protect the knight. When a shield is activated, it blocks all damage and status effects from reaching the knight. However, the shield takes damage from absorbing this damage and status. The amount of damage depends on the content of the attack and the shield's resistances. When the shield has absorbed so much damage that its health drops to zero, the shield is broken.
