Materials are used in the crafting process, to make new equipment or to upgrade equipment. They are also used to fulfill some prestige missions.

Most materials are acquired randomly while adventuring in the Clockworks. Higher-ranked materials have a better chance of dropping on deeper levels of the Clockworks. Here is a general outline (not a strict list) of where to find materials of each star rating.

  • ☆☆☆☆☆: All depths
  • ★☆☆☆☆: All depths
  • ★★☆☆☆: Stratum 2 and deeper
  • ★★★☆☆: Stratum 3 and deeper
  • ★★★★☆: Stratum 4 and deeper
  • ★★★★★: Stratum 5 and deeper

Certain materials are sold by Brinks for tokens. Two materials are sold by Sullivan for Krogmo Coins. Materials can be freely traded between knights, and hence can be sold in the Auction House. Some materials are much more valuable than others of the same star level, due to their rarity or their use in crafting popular items. Unwanted materials can also be sold to vendors for small amounts of money:
