A stratum is a part of a tier in the Clockworks. There are two strata in every tier, which are separated by subtowns and always follow a theme generated by knights adding minerals to dormant gates. While many strata can be created by Knights, some times there is a power distortion that already has a preset theme, usually involving a boss level. The strata and possible themes are as follows:
- Stratum 1 — Depth: 01-03 (Tier 1)
- Stratum 2 — Depth: 05-07 (Tier 1)
- Stratum 3 — Depth: 09-12 (Tier 2)
- Stratum 4 — Depth: 14-17 (Tier 2)
- Stratum 5 — Depth: 19-22 (Tier 3)
- Stratum 6 — Depth: 24-28 (Tier 3)
