- This article is about the sprites in the Firestorm Citadel. For other uses, see Sprite (disambiguation).
Nature Sprite is an NPC.
Firestorm Citadel
Several of these creatures are encountered in Depth 25 of the Firestorm Citadel in the "Charred Court." When entering the court a dried up fountain surrounded with flowers (the Blossom Aura Accessory is very similar) is visible. A larger sprite is waiting by the entrance to this area. When talking to this sprite, it will reveal that the shadow fire blocking progress can be removed with water. If at least 6 sprites are freed, they can supply the player with water to put this abnormal fire out, allowing progression.
The smaller sprites are cursed (there are a total of 8 smaller sprites, the player can free all of them, or just choose 6 or 7) and cannot move on their own. The player must pick them up and carry them to the fountain. Placing the sprite into the fountain "frees" it - indicated by the loss of the curse status and turning green instead of pink. Placing the 6th sprite into the fountain for the Shadow Lair version of this area triggers a surprise ambush.
Water fountains elsewhere in the Citadel continue to be supplied with water after at least six sprites are freed. This is especially important in Depth 28, since water is required to defeat Lord Vanaduke's Mask.
Shadowplay
The citadel has become unstable. Several smaller sprites help knights get through D24 (now called "Greenstone Bridge"). In the next depth, a few larger sprites are monitoring a severely damaged Charred Court (now called the "Overgrown Court"). The sprites have brought more nature into the citadel - it is raining and grass grows up through the tiles. But the shadows of fire still play in this dark place, which has plenty of hiding places for unseen foes that will follow unaware knights into the depths.
Notes
This character has been in the game since ???.
Nature Sprites are pure spirits of nature who follow the guide of the Spirit Mother. A sprite's appearance is similar to the devilite monster, being slightly larger with larger ears and wearing masks.
They are key helpers in the Citadel because they provide water, and knights could not claim victory without them.
At the end of the 9-2 Mission: Alone in the Dark, a Lost Soul of Almire makes a reference to the Sprites in his last lines of dialogue.
The large blue sprite in Depth 25 of the Firestorm Citadel is just called "sprite" in-game, but these release notes call it a "Nature Sprite."
History
- release 2012-05-16 (???): Big blue sprite in Citadel moved in front of Party Button to prevent accidental interaction during fighting.
Lore
"I've heard that some kind of force of nature had once tried to right his wrongs but Lord Vanaduke imprisoned it somewhere within his fortress. Finding and freeing it may prove useful." - Lost Soul of Almire (nameless)

Dialogue

You...you are not one of the lost. You must be strong to make it to this court. Please, you must help me!
|
|
|
I am a sprite, a force of nature summoned to this realm to extinguish the unnatural fire that is consuming it. But Vanaduke discovered and imprisoned us. I managed to escape, but the other sprites remain in his custody.
Now none may proceed beyond the court as columns of shadow fire block all exits. Shadow fire can only be extinguished with the water that flows from these spirit wells. The water is the purest found in all of nature, flowing directly from the springs within the realm of the Spirit Mother herself.

|
|
Without the power of the rest of the sprites, water will never flow through this realm. It requires a focus link with the Spirit Mother to bring even the smallest drops of water into such an oppressive world. The master of this realm has seen to it that the flames surrounding him will always burn.

Then you are brave as well traveler. You can find my kinsfolk throughout the whole of this court. Be very careful though, for Vanaduke's terrible minions are guarding them. Many patrol the main drag, so watch your back as you move about.
Once you find a sprite, carry them back to the sacred circle you see before you. They are no doubt weakened from Vanaduke's curse and will require rejuvenation. When six others are reunited we will form a focus link with the Spirit Mother and bring water to the wells.

- Free 6 Lost Sprites? I can do that! (opens gate)
- I'll return soon (gate remains closed, ends conversation)

May the Spirit Mother guide you.

The southernmost sprite:

Greetings again, star-borne one.
|
|
|
Yes, we nature sprites are the rain, the root, and the soil. But you are not like us. You are like the ones below.
|
|
- Speaking of 'below,' how do I get there now? This place is collapsing!
|
Sadly, even with our link to the Spirit Mother restored, we can only do so much to save this place. Yet, even as one path closes another might open. It is the nature of this shifting world. Good fortune, star-borne.

The westernmost sprite:

Even though you have defeated Vanaduke, it appears as though the curse he brought down upon this kingdom still lingers. It requires all of our power to keep these raging shadow fires in check.
|
|
The northernmost sprite:
|
We all sensed the moment you defeated Vanaduke. The entire citadel shook as he fell and for a moment we thought that this realm would be destroyed along with its ruler. You must be careful wandering these halls with the place coming apart like this!
