Many events, promotions, and lockboxes technically have "recolored" items, and many items are technically "recolors" of each other, using the real-world use of the term.

In Spiral Knights, "recolor" specifically applies to a group of items - these are items of the same type that have been recolored in the same way several times, just with different color patterns. Aesthetic content releases in this manner are so distinct and repeated often enough that they have led to this colloquial use of "recolored" in the Spiral Knights community.
