{{showhide|Previous "move icons" request|content=A few of us are working on missions. Wow! How many years has it been since missions were introduced, and we still don't have pages for a lot of 'em! Well, better late than never.
 +
 +
Please move the following to the following:
 +
*[[:File:Equipment- Standard Supply Pack icon.png]] to [http://wiki.spiralknights.com/index.php?title=File:Crafting-Standard_Supply_Pack.png File:Crafting-Standard Supply Pack.png]

*[[:File:Equipment- Deluxe Supply Pack icon.png]] to [http://wiki.spiralknights.com/index.php?title=File:Crafting-Deluxe_Supply_Pack.png File:Crafting-Deluxe Supply Pack.png]
 +
 +
The should show up in the table on the [[Supply Pack]] page when that page is saved after the moves.
 +
 +
Reasons:
 +
*General: Bad filenames. These items are not equipment. Also, there is an annoying space after the hyphen. Editors should be able to use the proper linking templates. Shame on my 2013 self. Shame.
 +
*Every other mat has Crafting-blahblah for its name, even though not all materials are used in crafting, and even though they are icons they don't have icon in the name. Just goin with the old norm 'cause it's too much of a hassle to change these to be "right," especially when nobody sees the filename except editors and the ultra curious. Same ocd issue with BlahBlah-Equipped after tooltips were introduced. After moving the files, please delete the originals after all "what links here" are taken care of. I'll post here when that's done.
 +
*We want to retain file history, because some people like old icons and time stamps - a discussion we've already agreed on :)
 +
 +
I'll probably ask something about OCH in a bit that involves billing on its own subpage and unprotecting the actual mission page.

I did what is likely the next best thing to a move. Wiki just needs to tick through its silly cache issues and it will be smooth sailing. The bad filenames are ready for deletion now, nothing links to them. Thanks for trying! Computers can be so feisty sometimes. They definitely have moods. Now to pester about OCH options for the next...future time unit(s).--[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 18:12, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

Hey again Clotho! I just fix the spanish template of the GuildInfo and yes, without the ":" works. Seems like user can add them to their userpage or guild but didnt find a good cat to add them, icon image's tag should remain in-game related in my opinion. Can we create some kind of category that those who want to make an userpage/guild can check for icons? We can add the tag to the prestige icons too. I dunno tell me what u think.
 +
 +
:For this, I'd ask Clotho what would be best to do. In the past I just slapped the copyright tag on them due to a story I read about Facebook getting upset over misuse of their logo, but there are certain CC liberties we have. A category named "External images" perhaps? --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 17:39, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
 +
 +
::Seems like that can be :) but what about Misc images? it would be a place images that are useful but not-related to game. Externals images sounds mostly like the same so any of those can be usefull ^^ --[[User:HikaruFer|Hikaru]] 22:20, 10 September 2015 (UTC)

Also, to dont make another section. There is still these icons of prestige badge: [[File:Prestigefinal-green.png]][[File:Prestige Rank 1 Red.png]][[File:45kPrestigeBadge.png]][[File:Prestigebadgeaquatwostripedot.png]][[File:Vermillion-badge-45k.png]] [[File:Prank vanguard.png]] That are in use. I would remplace them as they have it, only with the new format and URL buuuuut dunno if that count as rude xD --[[User:HikaruFer|Hikaru]] 09:04, 10 September 2015 (UTC)

:I'm going to slap the character image tag on the ones that are in use. User pages are free format. Unless they break ToS or are using an official icon in the mainspace (they often to for equipment and guild halls, and we've changed the names of those to be more fitting in the past and I've fixed them on user pages because they needed to be deleted), we leave their pages alone. For all you know, they could WANT a blurry version, for whatever artistic reason. Put the delete tag on them if they didn't serve a purpose in the past/won't in the foreseeable future and no pages link to them. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 17:39, 10 September 2015 (UTC)

:I remember I used to just slap the copyright tag onto them, but we went through that process already, harhar. Would this be an issue to just leave in editor hands? We ask because it seems sensitive. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 20:20, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

:::Generally speaking if someone is using an image in a private, personal, non-profit way it is considered fair use and it's ok to use (search "copyright & fair use for nonprofits" for more info). Copyright infringement exists if the image is used in a different manner. A "external icon" (or something along those lines) category seems sufficient in this case, along with a note in the summary specifying who owns the copyright. For example: "© [year] [company]. All rights reserved. [Insert Trademark] is a trademark of [company]". A quick online search can find specifics, [https://www.google.com/permissions/trademark/our-trademarks.html for example].
 +
 +
:::Please do note that these types of images should remain in user-spaces unless used in an official capacity. The same applies to the prestige visuals, they are welcome to use them in that manner, but only in user space.  --[[User:Clotho|Clotho]] 01:11, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

::::Okay, we will make a category for the misc/external images. Don't want duplicate files after all, which we run into quite a lot and have to clean up with delete tags and remove from usage. This should help users find images to use. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 14:32, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

==Duplicate Icon Issue==
 +
{{Showhide|Resolved: Duplicate Icon Issue|content=
 +
This issue is very similar to the prestige visual inquiry above. There are several complications. [[:File:Trinket Icon.png]] seems to have been uploaded to serve some purpose in the mainspace (image tag and vendor list) - either because trinket icons were limited at the time, or due to a lapse in consistency. Either way, there was a hiccup in the past in conflict with the icon naming convention used by the majority of the wiki - [[:File:Icon-bomb.png|here's an example]], the [[Arsenal]] page has more. I have fixed the bad file's use in the mainspace to better reflect both reality (using an old trinket icon that's colored like the health trinkets to represent current trinkets that are not health trinkets = bad) and wiki consistency, with [[:File:Icon-trinket.png]]. The issue now is what to do with [http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Special:WhatLinksHere/File:Trinket_Icon.png the colored file in use in the userspace]. We don't want duplicate files around (or files with too-similar names) causing problems around the wiki, no matter what space they're in. Again with the cancer.
 +
 +
Normally I would just fix this (as of discussions with users, [http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/103836 here's one], for a long time, I refused to do so because I have always viewed userspace as "pseudo-personal space"), [http://wiki.spiralknights.com/index.php?title=User_talk:Wombat75002&oldid=223718 but recently we've had a bit of upset]. Which is sort of okay, it means people care. But it's also making our wiki messy and extremely difficult to take care of. All these things just so we can clean up some user use of images for the health of the wiki while also not disrupting their work for the sake of social taboo.
 +
 +
To make our editing job easier, it would be nice to have a direct official approach for the process. Equinox is an admin, we are not, so we may refer to their edits, but it feels uncomfortable (at least for me) to enforce the same process, even though it is necessary. It would be fantastic if we could establish a process for handling userspace use of mainspace content. We would publish the userspace policy in the style guide, so we may refer users to it for justification, and new editors trying to help. Here is my proposal, I'd like it to be reviewed and approved/adjusted/rejected by staff. So far I've just used wikipedia logic, but yeah, something official for our wiki would be helpful.

{{Showhide|Novaster's Userspace policy proposal for the Spiral Knights Wiki|content=
 +
Pages in the [http://wiki.spiralknights.com/index.php?title=Special%3AAllPages&from=A&to=a&namespace=2 Userspace] of the Spiral Knights Wiki are considered to be free format within [http://www.spiralknights.com/tos.xhtml The Spiral Knights Terms of Service]. It is generally unacceptable and extremely taboo to edit pages in the userspace that are not your own. A user's page is their own design, and each edit they make is of their volition and intentional.
 +
----
 +
There are several exceptions for editing the pages of other users. Editors may edit the pages of other users if:
 +
 +
'''1)''' The user page is clearly a spam bot. Simply replace all content with '''<nowiki>{{delete}}-spam</nowiki>'''.
 +
 +
'''2)''' Content of the user page interferes with the wiki as a whole, a.k.a the "wiki project." This includes:
 +
*File usage - updating file names so old, out of date, or poorly named files that are used officially in the mainspace can be deleted. Deletion is necessary so the file is no longer a confusing and/or a low quality duplicate.
 +
*If the user is using a template in a way that disrupts category organization or mainspace linking.
 +
*If the user page is clearly a user page, but not in the userspace. Move content to the editor's user page and discuss the issue on their talk page. Place '''<nowiki>{{delete}}-user pages belong only in the userspace</nowiki>''' on the appropriate page.
 +
 +
'''3)''' The user has made a duplicate account and/or participated in [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sock_puppetry Sock Puppetry]. Resolve any conflicts by merging and moving content, placing delete tags where appropriate, and discussing the issue(s) on the user's talk page.
 +
 +
'''4)''' The user has given you or editors in general clear permission to help them with their page.
 +
 +
'''5)''' The page is a user's talk page. Talk pages are used to communicate with each other. Please do not remove content from talk pages (even your own) unless it is spam, a personal attack, not related to the wiki (casual chat), or the content is being archived. If content is removed, it can be viewed in the talk page history, as well as restored from there.
 +
----
 +
 +
Before editing in relation to any of the above exceptions, make sure the user is not actively working on their page to avoid an edit conflict. A safe bet is to see if the user has not edited the page in the last 3 days. This is usually not an issue, as users come and go and pages are usually left alone for years and require maintenance for the above reasons as the game (and therefore the wiki) updates with significant changes.
 +
 +
It is best to avoid disrupting the "look" of the user's page, out of respect for the individual. Instead of deleting or removing the issue, update it as best you can with the most current terminology, mainspace file, etc., and/or make a [[:Category:User-Specific Templates|User-Specific Template]] so the page appears to be unaffected. Switches can be added to certain templates to fix category issues. Sometimes conflict is too great, so removal of the issue is the only solution.
 +
 +
Before saving changes, remember to clearly and briefly summarize your edit clearly in the summary box. Always refer to the appropriate exception(s) in this policy - frequently this suffices as the edit summary, unless you wish to be ultra polite and specific.

*[[User:HikaruFer|Hikaru]]'s opinion: I've read all and i agreed. I have just a few months editing (since August 2015) and find that annoying. I can understand the user's error because i did something like that the first days here (^//^U) but wouldnt be bad to edit the page if the file name of a file is wrong and/or was replaced. We could erase all those bad/duplicate icons/images that make the wiki messy as Novaster said. One thing is that they are in the deletion's category but another is that they (the files) are in the mainspace which gets annoying onces you see the file and said "this is old" and then realice it hasnt been tagged to deletion cuz is used in a guild/user page, i have seen this more in userpages than guilds. Anyway. I support Novaster's idea, with also the idea of creating a category where "random" icons, useful for userpages, can be used. I know this is a serious wiki but (i think) users want to be part of this with their own pages so it would be nice to allow them to do the pages they want with the "rules" Novaster's have just proposed. --[[User:HikaruFer|Hikaru]] 20:47, 23 October 2015 (UTC)
 +
::Establishing policy like this is something GMs will not directly intervene in, at all. There will be no official directive from us regarding user pages. We will only intervene if there is a dispute or if there are insurmountable issues. These ideas need to be discussed in the wiki editors forums and reach a consensus with other players. --[[User:Clotho|Clotho]] 01:04, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

As per a previous discussion, we have made [[:Category:Miscellaneous images|a category for misc images]]. I have attempted to make [[Template:CopyRightSource]], but before we put any more work into it, we need to know if we're on the right track. If staff could find these legal-sensitive links (trademark vs. copyright etc. can be confusing to both experienced and new editors alike), it would be massively appreciated. The template is active on [http://wiki.spiralknights.com/index.php?title=Special%3AWhatLinksHere&target=Template%3ACopyRightSource&namespace=6 these files]. :There is no specific procedure to follow, it's all a matter of how they are being used by the players in their personal user pages. In my personal opinion as an editor (not a GM), this seems fine according to what we found regarding fair use. If it's creating a problem with editors and if they reach a consensus to remove the images to avoid potential problems, then that would be the way to go.  --[[User:Clotho|Clotho]] 01:13, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

We have recently been improving the [[Artifact]] page. As usual I made a mountain out of a molehill, but users really seem to like the new format because it caters to everyone (regarding wanting/not wanting "spoilers"), and we can stick artifact content anywhere it's needed around the wiki with ease now. So I feel it was well worth my time. I'm "fixing" the semi-disambiguation issue between [[Artifact]]s and [[The Artifact]]. It's not a [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Disambiguation true disambiguation issue] for editors, just a terminology similarity for general users. The [[Deluxe Starter Pack]] should link to the official arsenal term, as the Hatch Handle is an arsenal item, no matter the issues us editors fiddle with regarding how content is organized for user convenience. Right? TL;DR: please edit the link in the [[Deluxe Starter Pack]] to link to the true arsenal term. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 19:11, 11 September 2015 (UTC)

Additionally, we are looking to improve [[:File:The Artifact.png]] by making it an animation of this gorgeous object in its full glory. I'm 99% sure this image is not a true screenshot image, but it's been on the wiki since January, untouched by admins, and it really is a nice thing to see. I realize this is infringing on the "no spiral spy images" policy but since it's just an exploration entity, not something the player might "spend money on because it looks a certain way on the wiki and then be disappointed by how it really is in-game," and we know for sure it exists in-game and looks like this. I can't imagine this would be worse than all the outdated images we're working on updating. Unless it has something to do with the tools editors are allowed to use to manage official game images. I don't know, I'm an innocent soul and like to think the Bic people don't own what I draw with their pens, especially under CC. If not, I will just make an APNG of the artifact sitting pretty on the ground, but it won't be as nice.

Actually, if there is any legislation about Spiral Spy images outlining exactly why we can't use them, I'd like to have it added to the Style Guide so I can consistently answer the extremely common question "whyfor no spiralspy" editors and users ask me. There is a distinct in-game naming convention for places players can explore, such as "Wolver Den:Statusvariant" and "Lichenous Lair:statusvariant" and so on. We are trying to settle on a name for these things, and so far have [[:Category:Areas]]. I'd like to use the word "world," as it's more specific than "area" and opens up use of the word "area" for general use (as it should be), but [[:Category:worlds|the category was deleted in the past]], and it seems to be both a point of confusion for users and a sensitive wording issue with how staff wants their game to be understood based on the turmoil of deletions and edits. Is there a term staff would prefer us to use, now that the game is a lot more settled? Certain areas are "worlds" while others are not, according to [http://wiki.spiralknights.com/index.php?title=Clockwork_Tunnels&oldid=1256 this staff edit]. English doesn't really have a word for "a consistent geographical phenomenon which may or may not encompass an entire area or similar-themed areas at some point, and we only have access to small parts of the geographical phenomenon, and only sometimes." It's similar to very fast continental drift that used to have country/state borders but may or may not in the future. Heck, maybe "geographical phenomenon" would be best. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 05:43, 15 September 2015 (UTC)

Okay! A lot of sprite visuals have finally been updated to proper file names. A few redirects that nothing links to and files that are out of date and moved etc. should now be fully deleted as the final clean up step. As a result of this project, file names are now consistent for every sprite page, and the infobox has a consistent file name behavior with other infoboxes that portray items that have available tooltip visuals (my opinion of "equipped" for these files is one of OCD/past decisions before we had tooltips and I won't go into it). Much of this has been discussed before and is stored in your archives. This should be the last step! Several images still need updating to the full inspect window size, but they are in the new/consistent file name space. Other users are working on this too, and it's a fun project.

Images like [[:File:Rankmission.png|this one]] and several others are protected from general editors. I have a feeling that this was due to some default setting of the account type of the user who uploaded these (where is Equinox btw? Last I saw them was [http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/100777#comment-917870 here]), because it seems silly to lock most of these from editors. Gotta love un/checked boxes!
 +

We'd like to be able to update these, since it's generally preferable to update an image with a new image so file history is organized, even though the wiki has those cache issues. And they're no longer up to date. Then again, there's still images of the beta on the [http://www.spiralknights.com/media.xhtml Screenshot Section of the Main Media Page]. Yeah, we can all see that [[Angelic Helmet (Beta)]].
 +

It would probably be a lot of work for you...but I think unprotecting any image that isn't a direct [[:File:Button_cc.png|billing thing]] or [[:File:Howlitzer Concept.png|official concept art]] would be a good idea. Can we add the option to have [[:Template:Showhide]] open or closed when the page loads, while remaining closed by default? This would not change anything regarding templates already implemented, and will allow editors to do some interesting noinclude things with sub pages as well as general page organization. This template is understandably protected, so if you could add '''<nowiki>{{{state|collapsed}}}</nowiki>''' to the code if you think it's prudent, it would be appreciated. The new code would look like this:
 +
 +
<pre>
 +
<div style="width: {{{width|60em}}}">
 +
<div class="NavFrame {{{state|collapsed}}}">
 +
  <div style="text-align:left" class="NavHead">{{{1}}}</div>
 +
  <div style="text-align:left" class="NavContent">
 +
{{{content}}}</div></div></div><noinclude>{{documentation}}</noinclude>
 +
</pre>
 +

This way, editors can put "state=uncollapsed" if they wish. I have chosen the word "state" because I noticed [[:Template:SKWindow2]] uses the same, and consistency is nice. Also it makes sense.

*General: Bad filenames. These items are not equipment. Also, there is an annoying space after the hyphen. Editors should be able to use the proper linking templates. Shame on my 2013 self. Shame.

==Operation Crimson Hammer==

Okay! As you can see, several of us are working on getting anything mission related up to date, and [[Operation Crimson Hammer]] (OCH) is a mission - expansion subtype. Editors really need to be able to edit this page, because it is a large part of the game and connected to several things. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I can tell, the only reason it's locked to general editors is because it has [[Billing]] information. My solution to this problem:
 +
 +
Create the subpage: [[Operation Crimson Hammer/Billing]] and protect that.
 +
 +
Have <nowiki>{{main|Operation Crimson Hammer/Billing}}</nowiki> in an acquisition section somewhere on the OCH page, and let the main OCH page be edited by us (unprotect it).
 +
 +
Unless it was protected for some other reason? Could we have a similar solution(s) for that if so?
 +
 +
Thanks,
 +
 +
--[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 11:25, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

: That page is linked to our billing documentation therefore it needs to be protected in full, not just part of it. An alternative would be to make the changes in a sandbox, once ready, let me know and I'll update the changes in the page itself. --[[User:Clotho|Clotho]] 17:00, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
 +
::That's going to be a bit difficult. Editors really need to be able to freely edit a page that's such a large interactive and dynamic part of the game. That makes a lot of hassle to unprotect/protect a page on staff end over time. It's not possible to create [[Operation Crimson Hammer/Billing]], protect that, and then adjust billing documentation to link to that page instead? If not, I'll have to work something out on our end, but it likely won't be as pretty. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 17:34, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

Quoted from email to support (regarding my inability to log in for a day or so, but another employee resolved the ticket so you might not have seen this): ''OCH issue: make a billing page about OCH, named "Operation Crimson Hammer/Billing" and protect it. This page would be a page in its own right and be able to be fully protected. Attempt to make billing documentation link to this "Operation Crimson Hammer/Billing" page instead of the "Operation Crimson Hammer" page. Unprotect the "Operation Crimson Hammer" page indefinitely and make sure it always links to the "Operation Crimson Hammer/Billing" page. This is because OCH is a major part of the game and editors need to be able to edit it freely. This method of billing protection as a subpage with a main expansion mission page should work for future expansion releases. Just imagine having to protect/unprotect OCH and any future expansions every time the game changes and editors need to update aspects of this/those page(s) - awful, right? Other editors seem to agree with me, and they should write a response on your (Clothos') talk page soon. Additional requests/details in the #subsection ("Operation Crimson Hammer") on your (Clotho's) talk page.''

Before we go through reformatting and merging, are there any specific things editors shouldn't remove, or that staff wishes to emphasize, on the missions page? Of specific concern to me (due to our previous discussion about [[:File:Rankmission.png|this image]]) are subsection linking and images in relation to the forums. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 18:06, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

It doesn't involve external programs. Granted the process we use should not be broadcasted/well-known for economic reasons (and it doesn't really work for extra special things), but editors... What is your opinion? Can we start seriously doing things this way? As long as we find some representative in the item in the game first (a lot of the problem we have is getting to the item fast enough before people equip it so we can get the tooltip, once an accessory is equipped we lose access to the tooltip and have to find a different unattached one, for rare accessories this is particularly irritating), compare it to the file we produce, and if they match up, publish it on the wiki? The copyvio template should only be used when the source is found and the image is in fact a copyright violation under the terms of their license. There's a lot of information about the limited uses for non-free content [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Non-free_content#Acceptable_use here]. As a rule of thumb we don't edit user pages (except our own) unless there's a blatant infringement of our terms or copyright laws. --[[User:Clotho|Clotho]] 01:08, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

:I agree that we should be mindful about using copyrighted work! (I also just realized I didn't add the source for the images but at least we have most in the history). Because these are user pages, in some cases the use of images falls under [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Image_use_policy#Fair_use_images fair use]. It's not a blanket permission, however. --[[User:Clotho|Clotho]] 01:25, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

I neglected to tag this one: [[:File:BattleSprite Drakon Gun Pup ultimates 1.png]]. Please move to "File:Battle Sprite-Drakon (Gun Pup) T3 A preview.png" I plan on uploading new versions of these sometime in the far future - they will look like the ones on the [[Maskeraith (Spiralhorn)]] page, full inspect window views so the size of the adorable things can be compared easily. But that's way down the road and such, for now, we need easy galleries to use for future sprites and images to show up, so these moves were much needed and appreciated. Just to let you know, we might be reorganizing how we name area images - a few of us are slowly working on a map+visual example project. You can see the bulk WiP [[User:Novaster/Sandbox|in my sandbox]] and a live example on the [[March of the Tortodrones#Arcade_Gallery|MotT]] page. This is just a heads up about it - would it be better for us editors to download and reupload the files to the new names and delete the old ones (I don't like that, recall our battle sprite gallery project), or do that and not delete them, or have you move them? That is, if we decide we need to rename them - we probably will. We'd just like to know what would be best regarding the files, wiki history data, and your work time. -[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 22:03, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

I went in today and fixed up a few things for accessories - namely ToC issues and a nice acquisition column (was another player's suggestion that I agreed with wholeheartedly). ([http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/102232 "Trivia" vs. "Notes" forum discussion] in there for the ToC stuff). My main worry is the accuracy of some of the Lockbox availabilities for many of the accessories - it would be nice to get confirmation on all [[Lockbox]] drops, if possible. This is a rather large/serious request, and many players would appreciate it (I'm very sure - they're the only boxes we gamble with but don't have an official, complete drop table for). I will usually politely fix file usage on individual user pages if they are using an image that has an out of date or poorly named filename, something I was uncomfortable doing because it was userspace until I talked with a few people and saw [http://wiki.spiralknights.com/index.php?title=User_talk%3ATeaParty&diff=117924&oldid=104652 this edit by Equinox]. Hikaru and I decided it would be best to upload all of the [[prestige]] icons to consistent names, and Hikaru did the uploading.
 +
 +
Do you think I should just go ahead and fix those other prestige visuals? --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 20:49, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

:I will probably go ahead and just fix these, since it's not a huge issue, and we've [[:File:Cyan-badge-45k.png|already had someone go and upload their own because they changed their color]], and I am 99% sure while 100% guessing it's because they didn't know we had the nice high quality versions, and they would know if we had fixed the file for them. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 20:13, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

Quoting Clotho from previous merged issue, now separated: ''The same applies to the prestige visuals, they are welcome to use them in that manner, but only in user space.  --[[User:Clotho|Clotho]] 01:11, 17 October 2015 (UTC)''
 +
::So I am a bit confused now. Prestige icons are, well, I think anyway, official game images (seen in the upper left-hand corner of the HUD and next to user names), should we remove the list showing all possible color and rank configurations from the [[Prestige]] page (which is mainspace)? Or were you referring to only the above "cancerous" files? I refer to them as cancerous, due to the nature of malignant cancer and how duplicate files with different file names tend to propagate and confuse things on the wiki over time unless they are controlled. Since Hikaru and I made a uniform file system and provided the visuals, I view the usage of these prestige duplicates the same way as icons and other visuals around the wiki ([http://wiki.spiralknights.com/index.php?title=User_talk%3ATeaParty&diff=117924&oldid=104652 just gonna link to this edit by Equinox again]) and wish to rectify the issues. As I mentioned previously, users might want a blurry/different visual version for their own use, but I don't think that's appropriate for this wiki, again, considering Equinox's edit. But yeah, now I'm a bit confused but feel strongly we need to clean things! Just gonna stand here with a bucket of water, bottle of glass cleaner, and brandish my paper towels. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 14:32, 23 October 2015 (UTC)
 +
:::Now I'm totally confused. If the images are duplicate files then we need to remove the duplicate and correct the name in whatever pages the "bad" name linked to. If the image is an ''edition'' of an in-game file that it doesn't truly exist in game (i.e. a recolor) but it's only used in a user's page, then it's fine to leave alone. If none of that applies, please do clarify!  --[[User:Clotho|Clotho]] 01:01, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
 +
::::Soooo....[[Recolor]]s don't exist in-game. Got it! But wait, what did we spend our money on!? Argh! :P (joking). Granted, these visuals are simply personal color variants of a tiny in-game visual, but they do technically exist in-game, for sure. Users might want to see the possibilities when creating a new knight, so I very much believe the versions advocated by me and uploaded by Hikaru need to stay on the [[prestige]] page, about as much as the visuals of, say, a [[Scale Helm]] do in that sortable list of recolors. If you leave this issue to editors, we would follow policy we (eventually) agree on below regarding editing the userspace. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 01:56, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
 +
::::Erm, well, "above" now, not below, since the "Duplicate Icon Issue" inquiry was resolved from staff viewpoint. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 02:54, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
 +
::::I feel as if the confusion of this issue is simply the order of publication. Previously, there was no file naming system for in-game prestige icon rank and color variation, nor were many of them present. So Hikaru and I made one and published it on the [[prestige]] page. They should be treated the same as any other mainspace file even though they were uploaded after the sub-par originals and were not part of a mainspace name change of an established file. Following the logic of this discussion, the sub-par-userspace-now-duplicate-prestige-icon-files should be taken care of. But we will wait until we iron out [[Sandbox/Userspace Protocol]], as per the resolved "Duplicate Icon Issue" discussion. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 03:10, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

== Wiki namespaces ==
 +
 +
We are thinking about revamping the [[Spiralknights:Style guide]] to be super duper, and so that anyone who wants to take up the volunteer work in the future when we're gone can easily educate themselves. At the moment the guide suffices, but Hikaru and I want to make it better because it is a little overwhelming to look at the way it is. And somewhat disorganized.
 +
 +
Before we do, I'd like to know that the technical difference is between these namespaces. I ask because we'd be splitting the style guide into pages within the space, but some things seem to be a bit hazy:
 +
 +
*[http://wiki.spiralknights.com/index.php?title=Special%3AAllPages&from=A&to=a&namespace=4 Spiralknights]
 +
*[http://wiki.spiralknights.com/index.php?title=Special%3AAllPages&from=A&to=a&namespace=12 Help]
 +
 +
Do we make the new pages within the Spiralknights space, because the style guide is organized as such? But looking at other pages in these namespaces, it's pretty confusing.
 +
 +
I would think "Help" would be anything to do with editing/things that are within the power of the users, and the style guide page should be redirected to the helpspace. Spiralknights space should concern issues that can only be cleared up by staff/support. That's my opinion, based on what Wikipedia does with their helpspace. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Whitespace For example].
 +
 +
What should be done about this? Is there something technical somewhere that explains this for our wiki that I'm missing?

Thanks,

:Not to be impolite/impatient: we'd like to know about this soon, so that we may publish our work with [[Sandbox/Userspace Protocol]] (discussed [http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/112452 here in the forums]). My gut wants to put it in the Help space, not SpiralKnights. I'd like to fix the other issues too, so that I can make editing easier for others by making a kickbutt style guide, especially when I can no longer edit as much as I have been (I've already procrastinated with life much more than I should, old habits die hard). --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 19:58, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

::Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I have been working on other projects. I'm not sure what exactly needs to be done here - the Spiralknights namespace is for management-type pages and the Help namespace is precisely that: help documentation for potential editors. Why exactly do we want to change this? --[[User:Clotho|Clotho]] 16:52, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
 +
:::We needed clarification, we don't want to change the system's rules at all - we should just fix a few pages that seem to be in the wrong space because they seem to break these "rules". The style guide is in the Spiralknights namespace, for example, when it should be in help, right? Redirects and image tags should also be in Help, correct me if I'm wrong. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 17:37, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

We want to do things in ways that make sense, but we can't without knowing exactly what each namespace is for (now that you've clarified this, we think we know). New users are overwhelmed by the style guide, so we want to essentially make it into a list of <nowiki>{{main|Help:PAGENAME}}</nowiki> links, organized by general edit goals such as "visuals," "organizagion," "navigation," and so on.
 +
:: This sounds like a great idea and will help new editors navigate these waters more easily. --[[User:Clotho|Clotho]] 20:54, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
 +
 +
To start, we want to publish our userspace editing protocol. I want to make:
 +
"Help:Userspace editing protocol," containing the content of [[Sandbox/Userspace Protocol]]. Instead of <strike>Spiralknights:Userspace editing protocol</strike> containing that content. But until your response, the basic function of these namespaces was confusing. So now I/we're just waiting on an "oh sure, fix these things and go ahead" or "no wait, we need to look into this more." --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 18:08, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
 +
:: Please do go ahead, these tweaks will be most helpful! --[[User:Clotho|Clotho]] 20:54, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
 +
:::Before I dive in, will the move/redirect cause any issues with the Style guide? Especially external, non wiki links? I'm not super familiar with breaching namespace issues. It's a pretty major page after all, and linked to in the navigation panel. I'd like to think redirects take care of such things as long as they're not deleted. (My concern is with broken navigation) --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 21:34, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

==Operation Crimson Hammer==
 +
 +
: That page is linked to our billing documentation therefore it needs to be protected in full, not just part of it. An alternative would be to make the changes in a sandbox, once ready, let me know and I'll update the changes in the page itself. --[[User:Clotho|Clotho]] 17:00, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
 +

 +

==New Redirect Tags==
 +
There are a few words-pages such as "[[Electric]]" that we've redirected for convenience to "go" to color categories (users can always "search" for specifics instead of "go"). We'd like to make a redirect tag for these pages, but none of our current ones really fit - "R from alternate name" and "R from related word" come close but not quite. Would it be appropriate to make [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Redirects_from_short_names the equivalent of this] for our wiki, and to add it to [[SpiralKnights:Redirect]]? Or is there something better? It's a somewhat sensitive issue because these breach namespaces (main and category). --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 01:21, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
 +
:There is some desire to just adjust the rules for [[:Category:Redirects from shortcut]], which we already have, which is what brought this up. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 05:55, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
 +
:: I don't see an issue with adding that new tag. Has anyone mentioned a con to this proposal? --[[User:Clotho|Clotho]] 16:58, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
 +
:::Hikaru would have to make changes regarding [http://wiki.spiralknights.com/es/Categor%C3%ADa:Redirecciones_desde_atajos some work they did using the "shortcut" tag in the spanish wiki]. If it is unacceptable to adjust the "shortcut" tag's function to include all "misc shortcuts" (which I think is the best option because I am not particularly fond of nitty gritty nitpicky exclusive mostly useless functions, no matter how "technically correct" they are, but that's just me), then we will make the new tag - since you don't see an issue - and adjust. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 17:14, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

Looking carefully at "R from shortcut" examples, shortcut really seems to be best. Especially considering [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Redirects_from_shortcuts wikipedia's policy on the matter], specifically: "Shortcuts are historically reserved for Wikipedia project reference pages and are now used in and for all namespaces." I feel we should definitely follow in these footsteps, unless staff is opposed. I'll happily adjust the criteria on the [[Help:Redirect]] page. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 18:27, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

===New Redirect Tags: To Files===
 +
We are also trying to avoid uploading duplicate files that are large, especially for [[news]] images. Users appreciate easy access to the "big" art, editors like to punch in numbers because each thing is its own entity with its own name despite having the same visual, and duplicate files are bad (accessory icons are particularly annoying to me). I'd like to make a specific redirect for these: "R to circumvent file duplication" or something you think would be better. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 23:37, 25 November 2015 (UTC)
 +
:To resolve this issue, since it seems okay to add new redirect criteria sparingly and carefully and if there is significant need, I have made [[Template:R to file]]. I chose the word "to" instead of "from" because while the name should be restricted to pages in the file namespace, they are not technically always ''from'' "files" if they are "empty"/not uploaded (page), but they are always ''to'' an uploaded file (page). And this special redirect is most similar to the disambiguation type of redirect, which uses "to." I assume there is a significant reason for mostly using "from," but I do not know it. It seems to mostly be a consistency thing, or perhaps this results from the small "redirected from blah" message that appears when relevant under the page title. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 18:27, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
 +
::Bump this, relevant to a recent support request. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 23:58, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

::: I would advice against this. It's better to move the page to the correct location to preserve history in one place. The pages that link to the old file should be updated and point to the correct name. --[[User:Clotho|Clotho]] 03:46, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
 +
::::I'm not sure how moving files/updating old files helps in this case? Wouldn't it just be better to upload duplicates? The reason Hikaru and I worked on this is because wikipedia frowns so much on duplicates. --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 11:46, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
 +
::::Looking at potential candidates, I don't see how it's actually possible to move any of these files without totally disrupting the established naming system and/or moving something to an incorrect name. The issue is not incorrect/out of date files, but avoiding huge duplicate files on the wiki, so that when the "slot" for a new file (most often a news image) demands an upload, we can just redirect the new, demanded "file" page to an old, already existing file instead of uploading a duplicate that takes up a lot of space (relatively) if we are sure every pixel is the same. Hikaru figured out that this works because our wiki automatically displays the redirect destination file as if the called file is the actual file.

So that <nowiki>[[File:SpiralKnights News 190-big.png|100px]]</nowiki> displays as:
 +
*[[File:SpiralKnights News 190-big.png|100px]]  (displayed is file 149, called by 190 - see page code)
 +
 +
As you can see, the call for "190" displays the original file "149" through the redirect, even though templates/the wiki in general call for the new file, which otherwise would be an "enormous" duplicate of the older file (and repeat countless times with existing past files and future files for event posts in particular). It's rather fascinating in our opinion. I think Hikaru discovered the behavior/wiki-ability to do this by accident. But the wiki can definitely do it, so, we figured this is meant to happen in some way (otherwise, why would the wiki be able to display destination files through redirects?) As mentioned before, we thought about doing this for accessory icons, but decided against it because they're small and one day we might have to undo that net of redirects if the game gives accessories their own icons (which happened with costumes), while we wouldn't have to undo "news" unless editors agree to/admins mandate it.
 +
 +
If this is still inadvisable, we'll undo the system and upload a bunch of duplicates (that sounds snotty...I don't mean it to be, haha). --[[User:Novaster|Novaster]] 12:09, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Working through a very, very nasty knot of namespace issues. As expected, it is tedious. I've run into several issues/suggestions that I cannot edit due to page protections:
 +
{{showhide|[[Controls]]|content=
 +
[[Controls]] should have a link to [[Gamepad]] under the Gamepad section. Here's what I'd do, if the page weren't protected (some format tweaks too, to make it look better):
 +
<pre>
 +
== Gamepad ==
 +
[[Image:Official-Gamepad.png|400px|thumb|right|[[Gamepad]] Navigation]]

 +
*The gamepad is used for targeting, attacking, movement, advanced commands and quickslots.
 +
*The mouse is used for menu navigation.
 +
*The keyboard is used for chat
 +
 +
'''Move''' - Use the '''Left Analog Stick''' to move your knight around
 +
</pre>
 +
And blah blah. You'll want to remove the obviously redundant See Also section, with its link to "Gamepads".
 +
}}
 +
{{showhide|[[Terms of Service|ToS]]|content=
 +
[[Terms of Service]] should have a link to the official [http://www.spiralknights.com/tos.xhtml Terms of Service], shouldn't it? Somewhere near the top, I imagine.
 +
}}
 +
{{showhide|Navigation Panel|content=
 +
The "Style guide" link in the navigation panel under the search bar - it would be nice if it linked directly to [[Help:Style guide]] instead of through the redirect we agreed to make. There's plenty of links I won't bother fixing because it's not worth anyone's time, but I strongly feel that this change would be worth it, if such a thing is within your power to change.
 +
}}
 +
{{showhide|[[Mediawiki:Uploadtext]]|content=
 +
On the same note as the Style guide link in the nav box, fixing the links to be direct in our wiki's upload text box would be amazing. But, myself and a few other editors were wondering if we could totally redesign the upload text notification, because users extremely consistently miss the warning and re-upload images over and over. The "looking into the issue" bit is also years old and I'm 99% certain it's no longer actually being looked into, it's just what the wiki does. We'd likely make the warning obnoxiously huge (similar to the giant box on [[:File:Image Wanted.png|this image]]) and explain how users have to wait through the cache's sluggish update behavior, instead of displaying this empty promise.
 +
 +
If not, here's a copypaste of an updated form:
 +
*Fixed internal links to be direct
 +
*Fixed wikipedia links to be more obviously external (aids in user navigation, while it's possible to link directly to wikipedia, users don't seem to like being directed out of the SK wiki via links that appear to be internal, and phone users don't really have the option to view tooltips via mousehover, which reveals a link's destination)
 +
*Fixed wikipedia image source link to be up to date and actually link somewhere.
 +
*Removed cluttery list of most used image tags to encourage users to navigate to the actual image tags page, reducing lazy guesswork.

Hey! About Official Image

I was Equinox but he seems AFK, Novaster suggest me to ask here. I want to know about the official image's meaning. I want to upload this to the spanish wiki as "SpiralKnights_News_106-big.png". It is allowed?.

  • Yes, this is allowed. You may upload any image found in game, our official sites, including the wiki to the ES wiki. Please do remember to use tags! --Clotho 15:54, 2 October 2015 (UTC)

Also, to make the same question here, should i re-upload the image as "SpiralKnights_News_106-big.png" here in the english wiki too?. I know you are busy so take ur time, i still have a lot to do in the spanish wiki and this can wait xD. Bye~ --Hikaru 23:12, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

  • Not necessary if the image already exists. --Clotho 15:54, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
Thx will do now so i wont forget it :) --Hikaru 16:18, 2 October 2015 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion: Sprite Images

Out of Date GM Images

Improving the Showhide template

Supply Pack Icons

I did what is likely the next best thing to a move. Wiki just needs to tick through its silly cache issues and it will be smooth sailing. The bad filenames are ready for deletion now, nothing links to them. Thanks for trying! Computers can be so feisty sometimes. They definitely have moods. Now to pester about OCH options for the next...future time unit(s).--Novaster 18:12, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

Organized section better so it's more clear. Fire the deletion laser at the following files:

Operation Crimson Hammer

Okay! As you can see, several of us are working on getting anything mission related up to date, and Operation Crimson Hammer (OCH) is a mission - expansion subtype. Editors really need to be able to edit this page, because it is a large part of the game and connected to several things. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I can tell, the only reason it's locked to general editors is because it has Billing information. My solution to this problem:

Create the subpage: Operation Crimson Hammer/Billing and protect that.

Have {{main|Operation Crimson Hammer/Billing}} in an acquisition section somewhere on the OCH page, and let the main OCH page be edited by us (unprotect it).

Unless it was protected for some other reason? Could we have a similar solution(s) for that if so?

Thanks,

--Novaster 11:25, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

That page is linked to our billing documentation therefore it needs to be protected in full, not just part of it. An alternative would be to make the changes in a sandbox, once ready, let me know and I'll update the changes in the page itself. --Clotho 17:00, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
That's going to be a bit difficult. Editors really need to be able to freely edit a page that's such a large interactive and dynamic part of the game. That makes a lot of hassle to unprotect/protect a page on staff end over time. It's not possible to create Operation Crimson Hammer/Billing, protect that, and then adjust billing documentation to link to that page instead? If not, I'll have to work something out on our end, but it likely won't be as pretty. --Novaster 17:34, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

Quoted from email to support (regarding my inability to log in for a day or so, but another employee resolved the ticket so you might not have seen this): OCH issue: make a billing page about OCH, named "Operation Crimson Hammer/Billing" and protect it. Additional requests/details in the #subsection ("Operation Crimson Hammer") on your (Clotho's) talk page.

Missions

We have been pushing improvements regarding mission page format and organization on the wiki. I notice that there are several admin-related entities on the mission page. Before we go through reformatting and merging, are there any specific things editors shouldn't remove, or that staff wishes to emphasize, on the missions page? Of specific concern to me (due to our previous discussion about this image) are subsection linking and images in relation to the forums. --Novaster 18:06, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

Go ahead and work as you would, just be careful that important historical information gets a note, perhaps a "historical notes" section at the bottom. --Clotho 23:32, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
Roger that. Right now the only other issues I can think of that are most important and requiring staff attention are the above Supply Pack Icons and OCH. --Novaster 00:30, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
Phew...okay. Let us know if we missed anything important, or didn't explain something in the way the developers want it to be understood. --Novaster 19:32, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
Can you please elaborate on what exactly is needed for the Supply Pack Icons and OCH? (I got lost somewhere!) --Clotho 19:55, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
Details should be in each subsection of this talk page and signed with a timestamp. Would it be better to put resolved issues in a show/hide? I remember trying to organize my pile of requests here before and it wasn't the best idea :P. Icons are resolved, they just need deletion, OCH is a major issue that many of us are worried about and feel that a subpage (a page able to be protected in full in its own right) would rectify. --Novaster 00:34, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
Yes, using a show/hide for resolved issues is a good idea. --Clotho 19:27, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
Alrighty! Did that. Unresolved issues remain exposed. Regarding this particular issue, "missions": Let us know if we missed anything important on the main Mission page, or didn't explain something in the way the developers want it to be understood. --Novaster 21:45, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

Gear Halo Stuff

My friend figured out a nice way to get images of the other gear halos, but we asked support about it and they said we shouldn't do it this way and they're sowwie. Could you take care of the ones I tagged? The regal, volcanic, and toasty were captured in-game, with regal/toasty from AH and volc from a user's trade window. So those can stay. :( -Novaster 17:38, 2 April 2015 (UTC)

Replied here --Clotho 18:35, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

Oh, just delete, since support said "you'll want to remove." -Novaster 20:32, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

Sooo. Can we just leave those alone and put the method aside as a general "well it's great but it's sort of got the flavor of being a vigilante so don't do it," and just upload new files in the future if they ever turn out to be wrong? If so I'll just remove the "delete" tags and add notes to the files. -Novaster 22:03, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
Yeeeeeah just gonna remove the tag or let it stay based on what we find in-game. If the coloration is wrong, we'll just upload the new one. If it's right, we'll restore the proper tag. Is this okay? -Novaster 21:03, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. --Clotho 04:29, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
This is working. The gear halos are all consistently matching up (what we've found so far). I think maybe I didn't explain the process very well to support when I asked about it. I'd like to try one more time to get official permission to do this, since it's working. I understand if no. -Novaster 20:02, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
That has already been reviewed by a supervisor. If you like to discuss this further it needs to be escalated again via request. That said, we should only use screenshots taken directly from the game. --Clotho 21:50, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
It's sort of tricky cause it is technically an in-game screenshot. I'll let my buddy talk to support though, I don't like bugging ppl too much. Thanks for reading! -Novaster 22:20, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

vandalism attempt

I saw a vandalism attempt done by GFJhead, should i warn him or not? Because vandalism is really bad to all wiki's -1462 11:21, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Yeeeaaaah how about i just warn him? -1462 11:30, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Since its vandalism i will just warn him -1462 11:42, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

What that user did was on a guild page and a personal matter regarding membership lists, and this does not warrant a serious warning about wiki editing at all. I have cleared out this "warning", as the user's edits generally do not need a warning of such gravity phrased like the official thing used by staff, and we do not want to discourage editors - things like this are scary, serious, and one was only used on 1462's page when it was necessary. --Novaster 12:22, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
I have added a useful link and tips to user 1462's talk page here. -Novaster 12:44, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Clotho, sorry for evading the block, but it had to be done so i can update my user page, im only using it to be updating my user page and reply to my comments, so i would love this account to not be blocked, or if you unblock 1462 (my original account) and keep the other accounts blocked that could work, because i would never do anything bad on 1462, if you unblock me i promise i will never do anything bad again -Angelbringer 11:55, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

Stats Images

Would it be a good idea to have the change comment be "change: aesthetic "UI" changes from some time ago," or something similar, since we can't remember the exact release? -Novaster 23:03, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

Yis. I am going with "change: Stat bars became more defined as of a User Interface update some time ago." --Novaster 23:14, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
Woops, I uploaded an image you did already - but hey, the corners are curved now. Now we wait for the wiki to get over itself and show the right stuff! --Novaster 01:56, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
Yours looks a lot better! --Clotho 18:56, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

More recent request

Would it be okay for us editors to carefully attempt to make high quality versions of these as accurately as possible, since they seem to be unavailable officially? -Novaster 10:29, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
I think we should start a discussion in the forums and see what the community says. --Clotho 01:44, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

New Sprite Gallery

Ah those galleries are a mess. I've put templated galleries on all the talk pages of sprites. -Novaster 21:17, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

They were just waiting there for files to be moved :3 -Novaster 21:17, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
And we're deciding what to do about overworld group pics, so they're not currently in the "gallery template." -Novaster 21:18, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Done! --Clotho 01:27, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Images down the road

Should we make a tag that says "this image is fine don't worry about copyright, confirmed by Wiki Admin" for future editors, so you or other GMs down the road don't have to go through them again in case overly concerned editors tag them again because they weren't paying attention to edit history? -Novaster 01:02, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Definitely not - there is a very limited way in which some copyrighted images may be used in wikis. The copyvio template should only be used when the source is found and the image is in fact a copyright violation under the terms of their license. There's a lot of information about the limited uses for non-free content here. As a rule of thumb we don't edit user pages (except our own) unless there's a blatant infringement of our terms or copyright laws. --Clotho 01:08, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Good to know. Just trying to reduce repeated workloads. Due to the IRS constantly on my back for an issue (on THEIR end) already years in the past, I'm very paranoid about legal issues :P -Novaster 01:16, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

I agree that we should be mindful about using copyrighted work! (I also just realized I didn't add the source for the images but at least we have most in the history). Because these are user pages, in some cases the use of images falls under fair use. It's not a blanket permission, however. --Clotho 01:25, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Moved Images

I neglected to tag this one: File:BattleSprite Drakon Gun Pup ultimates 1.png. Please move to "File:Battle Sprite-Drakon (Gun Pup) T3 A preview.png" I plan on uploading new versions of these sometime in the far future - they will look like the ones on the Maskeraith (Spiralhorn) page, full inspect window views so the size of the adorable things can be compared easily. But that's way down the road and such, for now, we need easy galleries to use for future sprites and images to show up, so these moves were much needed and appreciated. Thanks again! -Novaster 01:40, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Moved! The images look great, just be careful not to take on too many jobs :) --Clotho 01:43, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, that means a lot :) -Novaster 02:03, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Extremely Speedy Deletion

I was fooling around in a sandbox page I made here, but for some reason it doesn't register as a subpage. I'm done with it, could you delete this ASAP so it stops messing around with casual wiki searches? Thanks, --Novaster 14:22, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

Exploration: Scenario Room Images

Just to let you know, we might be reorganizing how we name area images - a few of us are slowly working on a map+visual example project. You can see the bulk WiP in my sandbox and a live example on the MotT page. -Novaster 22:03, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

CaKe sLiCe

Can we move the File:Token-Cake slice.png to File:Token-Cake Slice.png? The capital letter issues make things difficult and I'd like to retain file history. I checked over other token files, no other issues regarding capital letters. Thanks! -Novaster 08:06, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

Something booched during the move and gave me internal errors. Tried to fix as best as possible. --Clotho 03:48, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

This works, thank you! (no need to feel bad, I know you were just trying to help!) I've moved it to archived so this can be less confusing :) --Clotho 23:17, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
Should I discontinue use of this template I made - it seems related but, it's not GM stuff. (Live example here). I made it because stuff like this seems to happen a lot so I thought it might be a good idea but now I'm not so sure -Novaster 14:19, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
That's entirely up to the wiki editors. --Clotho 16:15, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

Icon Fixes

Went through and "fixed" rarity icons. All that's left is outdated filenames on the Supply Depot page, which is currently protected, so I can't edit it. Would you mind changing the filenames to the ones used on the wiki now (all examples on Rarity page)? Or you could unprotect the page (again, haha - like you did so I could link to Supply Depot Sale stuff). The risk here is that I might not be online when it's unprotected, I suppose.

Just got fed up with a switch system, but I realize this sort of "reuploading things to better names" activity isn't ideal. There's a lot of inconsistencies on the wiki when it comes to this sort of thing (materials, perks, etc), and well, I've decided that it's not worth anybody's time (certainly not mine) to "fix" this sort of issue by reuploading files to better names, when you can just make an ugly (but functional) switch. There's more reasons than time though:

1) the game could give multiple functions to a single entity, as with "buff" effects (pickup items as well as triggered by monsters on each other or battle sprites on knights is just one example) - I just fixed duplicate file issues regarding these today
2) the game could change the arsenal classification of an item to be another arsenal classification, potentially rendering filenames inaccurate, and a hassle to "fix" if there's hundreds of them. But nobody really sees filenames except editors, so inaccurate filenames of this specific kind don't matter as long as published page content is clear, right?
3) we are at risk of losing easy access to archive data using the "reupload to a better filename to fix" method. I've often used the date an original icon was uploaded to make sense of the order of events. For example, I used the file history of the accessory icons for several of the older Round Shade accessory items to try and discern the relative date Round Shades were first released (not everything has release notes or admin posts), and a few others.

In the future, I'll be sure to just deal with a messy switch that only editors who have to muck around with code have to see. I'll "fix" odds and ends that I see though, like if someone just uploads a file to ads;jkflhasdfjkh.jpg or something like that :)

should I put the above reasons in a sort of "how to wiki" guide (a few of us are planning on revamping the style guide page to be more up to date), if you think they're prudent/correct?

-Novaster 14:15, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

I've fixed the icons. I'm not sure why you have to reupload them when it's so much easier to move the images to a better name. Just provide me with a specific list and the proposed names and I'll move them. --Clotho 16:52, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
because we're not allowed to move images.. it's a one line configure if you're inclined though --Icytea 17:31, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
I do have the option - haven't tested so I'm not sure if it's bugged or not. If you give me a list, I'll move them to the right spot. That way we don't lose history or resolution. --Clotho 22:00, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Image Moving

Here's something to test (just capital letters) - the icons I mentioned below! Could we move the following like so:

File:Buff attack icon.png >>> File:Buff Attack icon.png
File:Buff defense icon.png >>> File:Buff Defense icon.png
File:Buff movement speed icon.png >>> File:Buff Movement Speed icon.png
File:Debuff attack icon.png >>> File:Debuff Attack icon.png
File:Debuff defense icon.png >>> File:Debuff Defense icon.png
Moved, redirects can't be suppressed at moving time, we can live with them. If more need to be done, please start a new section in this discussion page. --Clotho 21:51, 15 February 2015 (UTC)

If the test works, shall we make a tag similar to "needs updating" for all files to be moved? I'll make it so editors put the new/desired filename destination in the tag. -Novaster 23:35, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Unless there's already a tag like this that exists that I don't know about ;P -Novaster 23:44, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
Not that I'm aware of. --Clotho 21:51, 15 February 2015 (UTC)

I'll get to making that tag. I thought about tagging many of the battle sprite images with this, but a lot of these are just too much of a "mess" and need cropping anyway, so I can just do my reupload-to-fix for those. I'm pretty sure it's very clear when battle sprites came out, so we don't need to worry about archive data for these. -Novaster 10:29, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

Ah looking at the files now, people DO have them on pages, and I don't like nosing about on personal pages unless there's something really wiki breaking. Tagging them shortly after the relevant WiP is done. -Novaster 11:29, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
Tah Dah! < please move it move it. To make sure they got moved to the right spot, I've put a "gallery prep" on the discussion page of every sprite (Like so) - they should show up in there once saved. These galleries should force consistent naming (dashes, capitals, and all!) into the distant future. Thanks! (and yes, progression pics are missing, that's a recent project I started as of the Gun Pup release and it's a very low priority WiP)-Novaster 17:15, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
I'm going to go ahead and comment here and I've asked Gamemasters about this a long time ago specifically about deleting posts through an easy-to-use template. Their response:
About the template, as nice as it sounds, I doubt it would be any different than what we have now. GMs monitor the wiki regularly, but not constant enough to be checking that category. An in-game request is much faster!
In this sense, this makes the tag redundant. The user(s) on this wiki are able to freely re-upload images to their proper name. You can also just add the Delete Template. Doing this is much more simple than constantly asking Gamemasters to move it. Just my thoughts on it anyhow. --Acies 17:29, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
I agree that as a long-term project it's not practical. However, I'm happy to help a bit - I'll take care of the images on that tag above in the next few days. If more come up, use that tag and poke me here to let me know. Please note that this is not a service that GMs are able to provide on a regular basis as our duties are many and time is short, this is a personal offer from me to the wiki editors for a short period of time. --Clotho 17:45, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
On a separate note, please do not delete information from this page, it's best to add a new section to keep things tidy. I'll be moving past conversations to the archive instead - as a GM, I must have a record of all interactions with players. Thanks! --Clotho 17:45, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
Oh dear, so sorry - I thought that because it is conserved in the page history it would be fine to clean up my clutter, because I post in here so much. Should I post everything back in here? -Novaster 19:57, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I see the major problem with this - Acies missed 75% of the conversation, which doesn't help things - I'd like to think everyone uses page history as much as I do. Just let me know what to do regarding the edits of the past week or so. -Novaster 20:06, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
I went ahead and tried to restore my "cleanups" based on history of this page. I probably made mistakes, but, I do try to do the right things, hope it helps (really hope it didn't somehow make things worse) -Novaster 21:23, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

Question about improving icons

I like how nice and high res Attack speed icon.png is.

Is there a way us editors can get our paws on higher quality versions of the following without doing heavy pixel editing ourselves (which leads to inaccuracy). These are not in game files in HQ as far as we can tell:

Buff Attack icon.png, Buff Defense icon.png, Buff Movement Speed icon.png, Buff Attack Speed icon.png, Debuff Attack icon.png, Debuff Defense icon.png, Debuff Movement Speed icon.png, Debuff Attack Speed icon.png

If you get them, I'd like to upload them (or for them to be uploaded) to consistently lowercase letters, with only Buff or Debuff capitalized.

Thanks, -Novaster 13:21, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

No, I'm sorry. The data we have available is the same that players have. --Clotho 16:42, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

A Big Project

Hello, as you can see from a ton of sandbox edits lately, we're trying to build a thing! This thing could be pretty major, so I think it would be smart to ask for staff opinion(s).

It's a list that can sort things via name, damage or defense type, resistances, abilities, penalties, and star, and so on, depending on the type of item.

I want to make this because a lot of players seem to have trouble finding certain item types and comparing items. After several months of this on the bottom of my "things I could try to do for the wiki in my spare time of which I have too much" I decided to get goin on it.

Naturally, I went to the forums to get more opinions.

So we've a lot of us have been putting lots of thought into this, and people seem to like the idea in general, but to sum up the forum discussion, we're not having an efficient time deciding on format.

Some opinion(s) on something this large from staff would be great, and, smart to get, yeah? -Novaster 01:10, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

Oh, also, can we get confirmation about the order of release for items? I've checked release/all but it doesn't mention everything :)/ -Novaster 21:19, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
The wiki is a community project and in general we rely on the consensus of the player community for such decisions, unless it's something that goes against the style guide/policy. As for release, I'm afraid I don't have a way to find that information easily and sending a query to the developers is out of the question. However, I can take a look and see what I can find. Which items are the ones that need fact-checking? --Clotho 18:23, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
Not sure yet, we've not tried to make all tables (since we're changing so much, it would be silly to do that work and have to change that too) - when we do, I'll post here. -Novaster 19:03, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
Update: the armor lists are filled in, namewise - in what we believe is the DoR order. Verification would be nice once we get them all onto the same page :D -Novaster 22:19, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Images, Animation, and Mouse

So I had a thought - would it be at all possible to have any APNGs we upload to the wiki be frozen on the first frame - only animating if a user hovers their mouse over the image? I've seen this before around the intranetz but IDK how we would (or if we could) go about it on the wiki. Just a thought! Would be nice for new players wanting to get a good look at an item, but otherwise be un-distracted by movement on the page while they look at other things. -Novaster 07:58, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

This looks like a topic for discussion for the wiki editors forums. --Clotho 18:28, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
Oki doki. If you're allowed to give staff opinion, what would be your opinion in general ;P? -Novaster 20:03, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
My suggestion would be to keep things as simple as possible. --Clotho 17:12, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

Tabber

I showed an image I made of my "tabber dream" to several players (image here), and the feedback has been almost entirely positive - so I decided to make something as close to it as I could with the current wiki. Calling it... Item Cards project! ("card" since, well, it kinda looks like a cute ID card for items, doesn't it? hehe). Anyway, it's been kinda...difficult, so I've spawned several templates and deleted them quickly, this sort of thing is not going to hurt the wiki or anything like that is it? I wish I could delete pages out myself (I like to clean up my messes), but all I can do is the {{delete}} tag, which makes more work for you. Ah well. I've just noticed a lot of inconsistencies with page format around the wiki - understandable of course, with so many contributors. If I can manage to make this Card Template intuitive, flexible-yet-rigid (rigid for consistencies, flexible for experienced and inexperienced users alike), I think we'll have a very clean wiki. Here is the forum thread - so we can track feedback and such. I'll update it with in-game feedback too.
TL;DR: Sorry about all the junk templates and trashed pages I generate in this process. I am inspired.
-Novaster 02:43, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

Icon for Crafting

The main wiki page has a silly icon for crafting...not been updated in a while.

Can we replace it with something more relevant? Like Icon-rarity.png or a greyed out version of Crafting-AlchemyMachine-Alchemy Machine icon.png (since not all rarities are used crafting)?

The pickup vial is a little odd this late in the game. I think I can replace the actual image file myself, but the main page it's on doesn't allow editing, so I want to ask. -Novaster 22:17, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Changed. It may take a while for the cached image to update. --Clotho 17:24, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

This Image seems a bit wonky. Idk if it's important but I just found it going through categories and I can't tag it...which makes me think it's important :O (why is it in icky jpg eeeeew)-Novaster 05:11, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

also this one. -Novaster 05:13, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Template Category Project

I'm attempting to put various templates into easy to navigate/understand categories, so users don't generate new templates when there might already be one they're looking for (something I did frequently when I was new here and would have appreciated as a nubbie editor). Understandably, I can't edit the Template:Showhide code - could you add [[Category:Showhide Templates]] to it? If I find more...specialized templates around the wiki that I can't edit so they fall into categories, I'll return here again. Thanks, -Novaster 15:18, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

It would be cool to do the [[Category:Showhide Templates|*]] thingie since it's the daddy template of these templates. -Novaster 15:35, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Organizing & Cleaning Category Images

This Image bothers me on so many levels. Bad tag, and it's not a true visual of the situation - that horizontal zigzag line doesn't appear in-game...I get what this image is meant to do but I don't think it's appropriate. The image is technically of an item, yes, in that it is of an item's...tooltip...thing...but compared to most other tag specifics, it just doesn't make sense. Could we delete this image...if not, could we change the tag to {{wiki image}}? I would just change the file that shows up on the Unique Variant page and add a delete tag myself, but this weird image is protected, so I need to check here first. -Novaster 04:47, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

There are lots of images in Category:Item images that don't have tags that make sense. I have {{text image}} and {{interface image}} tags that I think would be appropriate for most of these, but I can't edit some of them. -Novaster 05:06, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
Do you have a list? --Clotho 17:58, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
I do not. I've made/there are the following categories:
{{interface image}} if there's clickable button things or {{text image}} for if there's no clickable button things,
{{news image}}
{{obsolete image}}
{{screenshot image}}

and I think "File:Unique variant.png" should just be deleted for reasons stated above.

Please change the tags of protected images as you see fit. I'd love to go through Category:Item images and Category:Official images and fix/add various tags, but yeah I can't. Sorry for late reply, I didn't see that this page had changed - I should add it to my watchlist! -Novaster 11:23, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Modified edit: and I think "File:Unique variant.png" should just be deleted for reasons stated above.

I'd love to go through Category:Item images and Category:Official images and fix/add various tags, but yeah I can't.

Would it be best to unprotect files that are not sensitive regarding billing? Or just temporarily unprotect them so I can tag them? Early wiki days were weird. -Novaster 20:13, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

This is just a side thing. Destroying pages is probably higher on your list of things to do. I've managed to make another pile of them >,..,> -Novaster 20:17, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Winterfest Prize Box

1.5% - An Impostoclaus Hat and Winterfest Coat costume armor set! This exceptionally rare item gives you the look of the fabled Impostoclaus and lasts forever! (set includes both items) - by this, does it mean that the set came out (like both hat and coat) at the same time from a single unboxing at 1.5% chance? Nobody I know seems to remember. This information is totally super duper important. Totally. I'll have to slightly adjust templates if this is the case. -Novaster 21:10, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Confirming Anniversary Prize Box things

Did the "Anniversary Prize Box 2014" also have Party Blowouts, Party Hats, and Sprinkle Auras (like the Anniversary Prize Box) in addition to the newer Grand Toppers, Field Caps, and Plumed Caps? This Forum Post has the bulleted list a little iffy, and I've found a video here that shows Maskwell's list (so, no party hats etc. for straight up tokens, as I almost thought from that admin post). I don't have anything in my memory bank or files that can verify. Is there anywhere that lists the % chances for the Anniversary Prize Box 2014? Thanks, -Novaster 03:01, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

The only information we have available is the forum post you linked and this page. --Clotho 03:54, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
aw shucks :(. I guess I'll just leave a note on the Anniversary Prize Box 2014 page about "unsure about the prize pool." Thanks for looking. -Novaster 04:23, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Icon Fixes

Catching my breath...

I've gone through and fixed several icons (and typos in redirects) around the wiki. That was...invisible work! I plan on "fixing" perks too, and a few other odds and ends. I wish this mentality were more common:

Just because something doesn't have an appearance in-game separate from its icon, doesn't mean it's fine to upload one without "icon" in the filename, otherwise tables can't be uniform and switches get quite silly (I looked at the switch I did for one of the tables, and was just like ALL RIGHT, TIME TO FIX THIS SILLYNESS like a few of us editors did for confetti and boxes).

Anyway, I ramble...

Not gonna look at/fix materials. That's just too many files, the system works fine (making switches for something that consistently inconsistent-with-wiki isn't so bad), and nobody REALLY cares except my inner OCD Devilite and well, I'm only gonna be alive so long on this planet. The same sort of thing bothers me about "equipped" images...the days before tooltip rotations were dark indeed. Nope. Not worth anyone's time to "fix." Nope. Nooooope.

Thanks, -Novaster 11:08, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

Probably-Shouldn't-Be-On-Wiki-Images

Copyright Risk - created that tag so admins can deal with these in bulk as editors use the tag. What should be done about these images? I'm 99% sure they're copyrighted. -Novaster 15:37, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

I have just found the {{copyvio}} tag by chance working on another project. So, using that instead! I'll be working on a "how to wiki guide" pretty soon...so people can know that things like this already exist and not embarrass themselves. -Novaster 00:17, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Vandalism

http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Special:Contributions/Bolivio This guy has been vandalising the Unity Guild page for a few times already. Just look at his contributions: Putting stripes through the member names, removing certain templates, etc. I have talked to the GMs of Unity and they are trying to find out who is causing this Vandalism since the way this guy vandalised the page means he must have a grudge against Unity. --10000fists 09:56, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

=Hello, two questions

I've posted these on Equinox's talk page, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have them here as well:

Accessory Species

Hi, I've been talking with players for around two years now, and one thing they've always wanted is overworld previews. Most things look completely different during regular gameplay than they do in the preview/inspect windows. I've been working on creating various images and .gifs for this purpose, but life got in the way. Then spring break came for my university, and I did several this past week. But then I noticed an issue...

There have been so many promotions featuring new and unique accessories that the wiki pages on accessories at first just seemed to be out of date, and it's a fun hobby to help out. I dug deeper. I think I got over-inspired (my rapid reversion of a few images indicates my awakening from this inspiration - oops went too far, haha) and might have done some atypical labeling. For example, there are power pistons, golden laurels, apocrean disciple crowns, plasma wings...ruinous crystal...and on. And potentially on forever as the game progresses. These accessories are "unique" in that they are their own isolated "style" - no "volcanic power pistons" or "cool halo," and so on. So I decided to put anything that behaves like this into its own accessory slot, "Unique Helmet Front" for glow eyes, "Unique Helmet Side" for golden laurel, etc. The most important one so far (imo) is the Unique Armor Back, since that slot has the most unique accessories (well, besides auras, but those have always been special/unique) so far.

I did this to see how it looked in the menus and on pages. My reasoning behind this: if we keep making individual list slots for every special accessory, the list on the main accessory page could "scroll for miles" within a few years, or even several months, with all the aesthetics Spiral Knights keeps producing.

But I feel this isn't the most formal or appropriate way to do things, as in-game they are not called "unique helmet top." Granted, a person searching the term would be suggested the page containing information on the item, but I am still unsure.

I foresee many unique accessories coming to the game, however they may look, for all the slots available on helms and armors, given time.

How should we go about cataloging the "unique" accessories? And for that matter, how should we organize any gifs we create of accessories that move/animate in special ways (working on auras I find, and things like dapper combos and candle are mostly finished). I've been using show/hide tabs and tried to be consistent with file naming. So far, people love these animations. I've had in-game players thank me for letting them "just see the orbit aura." I give credit to the person who poses for me, if their name isn't in the image/animation.

Note - working on updating the too-large images currently in the accessory list, to match the size of the old images so the list isn't huge. Oops. This is largely dependent on what I find in the AH.

So, yeah - How should we go about organizing accessories, and information on accessories, with all the new content?

EDIT: well, I went ahead and did the unique slot thing, and people seem to love it.

Thanks, -Novaster 22:09, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Missing Promotional Images

official "Icons" (not usable "prize box" icons - examples: Ancientbox icon.png, Colossalbox icon.png, etc.) for these promotions are missing:

Not "buy this box via purchase" per-say:

  • anniversary prize box
  • Dark Harvest prize box
  • frosty prize box
  • companion prize box

These are not your typical...profit-box? haha. Anyway, not sure if these get official icons, as they're not part of billing and so on.

"Profit Boxes" - promotional image icon thing missing:

  • decoration kit prize box
  • elite trinket
  • gobble snipe box
  • gourmet prize box
  • nemesis prize box (this also needs an Admin wiki page creation in general)
  • obsidian prize box
  • polar prize box
  • winterfest prize boxes

Oh and, the "blooming," "equinox", "katastrophe", "rage", "rose regalia," "Slime," "Splash", and "Surprise" icon things could use that interesting... "protection tag?" Some of the others do, these don't, dunno why, seems odd to me :D. So I thought I'd mention it. The "stormy" one has a different tag, might as well mention that too.

I see that Thalia usually posts the promotional pages but, Thalia doesn't have a Talk page yet, so, I didn't know exactly how to politely post this request, but here it is!

Hope I didn't miss any.

I don't know where I get the editing energy from, it just comes and goes. -Novaster 07:14, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

I'll try to get the missing icons, but it may take a few days. Thanks! --Clotho 17:56, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

Accessories and Lockboxes

I went in today and fixed up a few things for accessories - namely ToC issues and a nice acquisition column (was another player's suggestion that I agreed with wholeheartedly). ("Trivia" vs. "Notes" forum discussion in there for the ToC stuff). My main worry is the accuracy of some of the Lockbox availabilities for many of the accessories - it would be nice to get confirmation on all Lockbox drops, if possible. This is a rather large/serious request, and many players would appreciate it (I'm very sure - they're the only boxes we gamble with but don't have an official, complete drop table for). All we know is that the drop table has been changed over time (with release notes like these. Thanks! -Novaster 01:06, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Additional requests/details in the #subsection ("Operation Crimson Hammer") on your (Clotho's) talk page.

I'll discuss this with the billing department, but I don't foresee any changes in the near future. Sorry! --Clotho 20:42, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
Actually, what might work for the time being is a Sandbox/Operation Crimson Hammer where you guys make all the editions you want and I'll just copy/paste the contents into the protected page. --Clotho 20:46, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
I view this as a bandaid solution for reasons stated above (quite a hassle to do it this way if we continue to get more expansion missions). I/We'll work on that...soonish, most likely, but real life is very pressing for me these days. Let's hope billing can be flexible! --Novaster 20:53, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
We have another idea that might work better. I'll post here as soon as it's fleshed out. --Clotho 20:04, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
Sounds exciting. --Novaster 20:13, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
Any news about this? And btw (in response to a support request), we are totally already putting soundtrack information on location pages. Super happy staff is on board with this idea. --Novaster 23:58, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
No news I'm afraid. I've been sent to different projects so this one had to go to the back burner. I'll holler when/if that changes. --Clotho 21:43, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

New Redirect Tags

There are a few words-pages such as "Electric" that we've redirected for convenience to "go" to color categories (users can always "search" for specifics instead of "go"). We'd like to make a redirect tag for these pages, but none of our current ones really fit - "R from alternate name" and "R from related word" come close but not quite. Would it be appropriate to make the equivalent of this for our wiki, and to add it to SpiralKnights:Redirect? Or is there something better? It's a somewhat sensitive issue because these breach namespaces (main and category). --Novaster 01:21, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

There is some desire to just adjust the rules for Category:Redirects from shortcut, which we already have, which is what brought this up. --Novaster 05:55, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
I don't see an issue with adding that new tag. Has anyone mentioned a con to this proposal? --Clotho 16:58, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
Hikaru would have to make changes regarding some work they did using the "shortcut" tag in the spanish wiki. --Novaster 17:14, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

Looking carefully at "R from shortcut" examples, shortcut really seems to be best. Especially considering wikipedia's policy on the matter, specifically: "Shortcuts are historically reserved for Wikipedia project reference pages and are now used in and for all namespaces." I feel we should definitely follow in these footsteps, unless staff is opposed. I'll happily adjust the criteria on the Help:Redirect page. --Novaster 18:27, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

New Redirect Tags: To Files

We are also trying to avoid uploading duplicate files that are large, especially for news images. --Novaster 23:37, 25 November 2015 (UTC)

To resolve this issue, since it seems okay to add new redirect criteria sparingly and carefully and if there is significant need, I have made Template:R to file. I chose the word "to" instead of "from" because while the name should be restricted to pages in the file namespace, they are not technically always from "files" if they are "empty"/not uploaded (page), but they are always to an uploaded file (page). --Novaster 18:27, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
Bump this, relevant to a recent support request. --Novaster 23:58, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
I would advice against this. It's better to move the page to the correct location to preserve history in one place. The pages that link to the old file should be updated and point to the correct name. --Clotho 03:46, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
I'm not sure how moving files/updating old files helps in this case? Wouldn't it just be better to upload duplicates? The reason Hikaru and I worked on this is because wikipedia frowns so much on duplicates. --Novaster 11:46, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
Looking at potential candidates, I don't see how it's actually possible to move any of these files without totally disrupting the established naming system and/or moving something to an incorrect name.

Example relationship, using the most recent to demonstrate how the system works with time:

  • File:SpiralKnights News 149-big.png (original artwork)
  • File:SpiralKnights News 190-big.png (reused artwork)

We have this on the reused artwork file page:

#REDIRECT [[:File:SpiralKnights News 149-big.png]]
{{R to file}}

So that [[File:SpiralKnights News 190-big.png|100px]] displays as:

  • SpiralKnights News 149-big.png (displayed is file 149, called by 190 - see page code)

If this is still inadvisable, we'll undo the system and upload a bunch of duplicates (that sounds snotty...I don't mean it to be, haha). --Novaster 12:09, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

More Issues

Working through a very, very nasty knot of namespace issues. As expected, it is tedious. I've run into several issues/suggestions that I cannot edit due to page protections:

I'm sure I will run into more issues as time ticks mercilessly by with this project. --Novaster 04:44, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

Accidental Block

I've noticed you blocked User:Aferron, who don't have anything to do with this spamming madness. Can you unblock him, please? --Matusm 11:12, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

Unblocked now. We have been flooded and a few valid users got caught in the sweep. Please send me an in game request (those get looked at faster) if you notice any other incorrect block. Thank you!

Follow up from a thankyou

I want to thank you for removing all the spamming madness that was happening in early March, how crazy was that, appreciate your efforts to help the community, a lot like myself :) --Cdst16 (talk) 07:10, 7 April 2017 (PDT)

  • Thank you! I'll be sure to pass your message to all the other GMs and developers who have helped us sort this out. We really appreciate all the effort you and all our wiki editors have put through this madness. Thank you again! --Clotho (talk) 14:11, 9 April 2017 (PDT)

After yesterday I saw yet another attack on the wiki, with the user Parirux creating this page, I have already put the tag in for it to be deleted and the user blocked permanently, here is the link to the page created: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Sddsdssdsd --Cdst16 (talk) 19:17, 7 April 2017 (PDT)

  • Looks like Cronus already took care of it! --Clotho (talk) 14:11, 9 April 2017 (PDT)

Wiki Images

Are there any plans to restore images uploaded after the game transfered to Grey Havens? I don't know if I should reupload some of the lost images (so I don't replace them) and if they will be lost in the future when I upload some (even entirely new images). --Matusm (talk) 10:42, 13 April 2017 (PDT)

Unfortunately, those images were lost forever during the move. Our only choice is to reupload little by little using saved files, taking new screenshots or even using wayback machine in some cases :( --Clotho (talk) 15:30, 14 April 2017 (PDT)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B819bXipY0SReXRjTWJpU1VadlE/view?usp=sharing Took dump of wiki images some time ago. Isn't it your chance to fix it? --Rrrrex (talk) 02:34, 15 April 2017 (PDT)
