:::It is good, well, the apparence template can stay but i think the Snowfall Aura (in this case) would be top, and the rest of the information above. I mean, the name itself said "Aura-Preview" so the aura is main but wanted to make it clear that is the focus item there, then, the extras (what else the knight have). For some reason i find the '''<nowiki>{{equip|</nowiki>''' kinda annoying in this case xD. I mean, i do like it with icons, that is no doubt, but the "equip" template i think it would need to be inside the code, thats why i was thinking the apparence's template wouldnt fit because it works good without the equip template. I will try to make the edits in the ImageInfo's template without too many savepage-edit --[[User:HikaruFer|Hikaru]] 22:43, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

Revision as of 22:43, 4 November 2015

I am not an employee, just a very overly enthusiastic gamer and wiki editor. Keep edits here limited to things about the wiki that I've done, or that you are very sure I can help with. All my work is volunteer - and I value every moment :). That being said, I'll be happy to help if I can. My IGN is Novaster, same as my wiki account, so pop me a pm or mail in-game if you want to casually discuss things.

If you have a suggestion for Spiral Knights, please use the Suggestions Forum instead. If you need assistance with your account, use the links on the Support Portal to get help.

NPC pages

Notes now that we've run into a few obstacles:

  • Noticed that appearances are lengthy and complex. They really shouldn't go in the infobox. Moving them to the main article in their own section is better. Besides, the picture in the infobox is worth 1000 words. Most other wiki's I've seen do things this way. Of course, for certain NPCs, we will use a template to make listing equipment easier.
  • The infobox entry needs to be simplified so monster species can be specified, for example, "spookat" instead of "monster."
  • List vs. Individual: somehow clarify... just think of NPCs as weapons. We have a list of each weapon type: bomb, handgun, sword. Each weapon has its own page. "leviathan blade" is a "sword," which is a "weapon." "Virgil" is a "spiral warden," which is a "type of NPC." --Novaster 23:54, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
Apparence: Knights are the one who should have them in the infobox, for Gremlins need only the items extra (Nonna, has a Flower an a Mask for example), for Strangers it is not that necessary i guess just add the mask "symbol" and the "main color" and in case other thing (like Bootshuze how kinda looks like a gremlin) add it but only in general, for monsters, just add which family it is because in appearance, almost all monster are the same.
Infobox: Agreed.
List vs individual: A main list of NPCs could be fine and can be sorted like missions which have Rank mission, Prestige mission, Expansion Missions and arcade mission, in a NPC list would be Knight, Strangers, Monsters, and Bosses.
For an extra thing, i would like a "title" parameter. The Role parameter would not be shown in the page but help to add the category but the Title would show. Like Archilus, he would be Knight: Elemental Defender but his role parameter would have vendor and the category would be added. For those without tittle a switch can be added to show the role then. --Hikaru 00:17, 29 September 2015 (UTC)
PD: the px in the mugshot should be fixed, i tried but faild EDIT: Cool! thx~ but isnt a tiny? though it would have the width of the info box. Anyways when you come back we can talk it better ~ --Hikaru 00:17, 29 September 2015 (UTC)
It currently matches the basic infobox dimensions (such as Bolted Vee default, which is 201x222px), but for some reason the template doesn't like #x#px restriction. IMO the Basil pic is now the perfect size, but for pics that are erm...out of date, regarding your great transparency and isolation work, will not look so hot. Bulky isn't looking happy, for example, but when he's isolated like Basil is, I think it will be a good size. This works pretty well for overworld shots such as Edger too, but I think I/we should try harder to make sure the overworld pic dimensions are a square instead of a rectangle (which I didn't because Edger was larger than my standard capture), for various reasons. I suppose the left/right padding is a bit much and could be looked into (all that empty blue space to the left/right of the pictures in the infobox is what I'm referring to, a separate issue from image size, though they are related yes). EDIT: actually bleh they really should stay as they are, they reflect in-game size and the infobox can't be any skinnier for various text squishing reasons. And it didn't bother me until I thought maybe it was a problem, but then I remembered that some NPC portraits are really just cut off like that (especially Vanabutt). And yeah I really should sleep...had a lot of downtime today because of the thing that cut the vacation short, which is a family medical emergency. --Novaster 02:19, 29 September 2015 (UTC)
Bulky indeed, looks pretty sad lol, but there will be the event sooner so i can take screen yay~ Im going to sleep. Hope it wasnt that bad! (your medical emergency) take care~ --Hikaru 02:39, 29 September 2015 (UTC)
Yes and the px. EDIT: fixed the px issue...but not in the way I really wanted to, oh well. Regarding the infobox, it really has to be consistent. We can't have appearance in the infobox just for knights, when every NPC has an appearance that can be described (which is different than other topics which not every entity has, such as "depth range" not being a thing for dialogue missions). It makes finding the same type of information a real hassle, and is the reason people are so unhappy with many equipment pages, which were slapped together in the past with inconsistent ToC sections as well as inconsistent ToC order. Here are some examples from other wikis, regarding appearances (I don't necessarily agree with the format of these wikis, just showing the description of how they look in paragraph/partial list form is the point here):

I regret not using this format with the page format I set up from the start, as it seems to be the proper thing to do. --Novaster 00:50, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

Battle Sprite Skills

First of all, that header scared me, it sure do its mission to being notice xD
About the Skills. Why dont we move the ultimate upgrades to the main page? Example: Ray of Light have two ultimates, but in individual pages. It doesnt seem useful because the Ray of Light's page doesnt have THAT much info, why dont merged them together and just add redirects to the individuals pages? --Hikaru 01:03, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

I would support this change. I think I have "improve BS skill pages" somewhere on my to do list. It would show animations too, a lot of people never see the Haunted Haze death effects. --Novaster 01:04, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
But let's stay focused on current projects. Don't bite off more than you can chew! --Novaster 01:09, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
Yay :D! the BS pages looks awesome, so the skills need some love too :3. Haha yeah, NPC and Missions are still WIP --Hikaru 01:33, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

Icons Tags

I am pretty sure you notice i been playing with icons lately. Thats for three reasons:

1. I am fixing the horrible amount of lost-icons in the spanish wiki so i wanted to check the icons here just in case.
2. There was an error in the tags you proposed (it took me a time to understand the "error"). Everything was fine till costume icons appear, the amount of icons is moren than 200, so the page, when show 200 icons costume and you want to "200 next" it show the same list again. The only solution was adding the costume word but with anything else, so i (kind of) sorted the costume and add the tags to it:
So now the error is gone yay~ even if editos dont tag the new uploads, the disorder wouldnt be that bad which is what i like xD. I didnt add "costume-event" in case the numer increase and the problem will appear again. I will tag the rest tomorrow, there is a few things i would like to know:

What do you think? I still need to "tag" icons from acc and recolors from costumes. I was thinking for recolor this way:

So all "types" would show together, but then i think that maybe per color is better, like: costume-rc hallow, so all items with hallow recolor would show togehter. What do you think is better?. btw, i though it tag them together (just costume-recolor) but would create the same problem of getting "stuck" in "costume-recolor" after pressing 200 next, because there are almost 300s icons (just for recolors) and the amount of prize box thats being release is too ... high so the number will probably increase so. That xD

And the other thing, about acc icons, the acc tag would create the same problem (once all tag are added) so, for me, those icons are like... w/e xD at least in the category, so i was thinking in adding "z-acc hunter"/"z-acc lovely" with z the icons will be at the end of the list so they dont bother that much, if i just add the "acc hunter" the A would be first and noooooo. So let me know what you think. Nite~ (wow i write really funny in english when "thinking faster" haha sorry for all the typos and etc, too sleepy to fix those, i think they are understandable haha) --Hikaru 06:10, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
P.D: I forgot to tell you about this --Hikaru 06:11, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
Forgot reason 3: Its because i can :V --Hikaru 06:11, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

Whatever works! I've been aware of the "next 200" error for quite some time, which is why I halted the project - it annoyed me. I've been getting around it by changing the letter in the URL to = whatever was needed, and people really seem to like doing that anyway cause it lets them jump to gates etc. I do not know what causes the error, or if it's only for a few browsers, or what, but I'm guessing it has something to do with how old our mediawiki version is. I am glad you seem to be having fun with the project though, and your reasons and organization seem fine to me. The reason I started this project in the first place was because we had many duplicate uploads, and those are bad for any wiki. So I wanted editors to find what they were looking for quickly, after several searches I did for myself yielded sub-par results. --Novaster 14:00, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
The project was cool, i mean, its way easier to find icons that way, but at first i was just seeing what kind of icons the category had and encounter with the costume problem. I guess it because... the list, after every next, the url (without tags) changed to the first icon name (like, &from=Equipment-Armor icon.png) and with tags, if i click next and the last one of the list was a bomb-5, the list start with bomb-5 but from the first bom-5 icon, not from the one i left in the previous page, so with costume, more than 200 had the same tag "costume" so when you lick next 200 and the next icon would have "costume" the list show the first costume (again) not allowing to move foward. Or thats what id get playing around with the cat xD. After i got all tags i will add those in the list,(for gates or prestigue or mats(crafing) i didnt add a tag because the "gate-" or "furniture-" in front already sorted them in the list) after that dunno whats next. Thx x3! --Hikaru 18:15, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

Oh and, btw what its this because i dunno if it would be used in a future, same as the template --Hikaru 23:49, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

That's the little heart all the shields have in their stats interface. Feel free to upload a better version, it looks pretty sad doesn't it? :P. That template was part of the "alpha" phase of the giant sortable gearlist project. --Novaster 01:06, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
Its not xD and i didnt even notice the stats interface heart haha xD --Hikaru 01:28, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
What's not what now? --Novaster 01:35, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
Lulz didnt saw ur msg sorry. Its not "pretty sad" as you said. Aaaaaand that reminds me, what its this? --Hikaru 02:39, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

News Table

So im seen that the page itself have a parameter called "patch" which (99% of the content) have ??? and the code never had that parameter, why is that?--Hikaru 02:19, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

Because when I made the format I was working from the beginning forward and the template I used changed. The first version had almost exactly the same inputs so I just used a text replace to fix the template usage for the current template in use while leaving the remains of the original entry format on the published page. The staff has done fewer and fewer patch note releases as the years have gone by. A lot of changes have been made "quietly" (such as the brigandine butt and tooltip preview and many, many other "small" things) which makes things very difficult for editors to source. I will look at compressing this information later, either moving it into notes or simply removing it, as "patch notes" seem to no longer be a consistent source of information (as of for quite some time now), at least compared to admin posts in the forums and promotion details on the wiki. --Novaster 14:39, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
Oh i see, now it make sense xD i was looking in history but didnt find the version (but i didnt look in each one) --Hikaru 23:38, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

Copyright Templates

Nice new templates btw! Seems they work fine. I like the CopyRightSource's template! Hope they develop this "issue" with the external images --Hikaru 17:30, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

Yeah. While I'm nervous about copyright/trademark/legal issues, I am no lawyer, so I'm trying to leave it in staff hands as much as possible. Mostly I just hate duplicate files lol, with the exception of icons and stats images. Those each need to be uploaded, even though we could definitely use one "volcanic helmet front" icon for all relevant entities as they are now. What if the game updates suddenly and each accessory icon becomes a colored form of itself, as with costumes? Eeek! The number of cleanup edits we'd have to do would be awful, vs. just uploading new icons and letting the wiki cache sort through itself to show the right thing. --Novaster 16:07, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
Haha funny thing is that im doing that with the spanish wiki xD. Exactly as "Equipment-Volcnic helmet front icon.png" with each (but correct type and acc slot) and then add redirects. I really hope the game doesnt update like that! at least, not sooner! xD--Hikaru 23:38, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
Well, looks like it's up to us to dig around for that copyright phrasing and finish it for the files we know we've got. --Novaster 02:56, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Your To Do List

I was reading your To Do List so, i think you can put Gun Pup Helm icons out of the list. You may tell me what do you think of those plz, first time recoloring icons. --Hikaru 04:26, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

Hmm, those look fine. The icon itself has sharp gradients, idk why, so yeah. Before you do more, though, are you using direct color code shading or going by eye? --Novaster 13:19, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
Tried to do eye but then code but i kinda did a mixture of both xD. I use the recolor and just change the tone till get close but not exactly the code color cuz i couldnt make it work --Hikaru 19:09, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
Ask Flowchart in-game how they do it. Maybe Flowchart can write up a step by step process for the style guide if we ask spuper nicelee. --Novaster 19:10, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

Overworld Animations

It would be preferable if you gave a little bit of time for the back side of the equipment before you start shaking and running around. Particularly the Authentic Masks, since those have the most detail on the back - I want to see the back without constant wiggling and shaking. --Snarbylord 00:06, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback, but the wiggle and shake is to show whether or not something jiggles when you move - SK doesn't have a ton of cloth physics, but users asked for the wiggle. I'll have to do the wiggle after a few moment's hesitation, then. These animations take a very long time to do, so don't expect them to update any time soon, unless you want to do them yourself. Or you could watch the animation repeatedly if you're desperate to know now. There's also a rotation animation available for a closer look at the back, again, repeatedly, but frozen in the gallery for convenience. I know this is different from the overworld, and that's why we even do the overworld. Really hope they let us preview in the overworld one day. Not only would it save a lot of pain, it would likely give us a standard background to film with. --Novaster 00:16, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

Dark Harvest Question

I just wanted to ask. This is my first time in the event so, i know it ends Nov 2nd but, beign today Nov 1st, when the time changes to 2nd, it will end and i cant buy any more candies? Tokens said it expired Nov 11 so that makes me think Maskwell and Bulky will stay there till Nov 11, or... how it is? (I ask because i just need a few (max 10) tokens to get the masks but cant enter anymore today, i dont want to lose my chance to get those mask xD) --Hikaru 23:56, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Honestly I don't remember! But I think Bulky and Maskwell stay for a little while after the event (if they do I'll have to reword their pages slightly), similar to how stores have overstocked candy they still want you to buy ;P. I seem to remember them doing that. But I'd still minimize risk and get done what you want to get done just in case. --Novaster 13:57, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
Luckily i get my two mask yay~ Bulky and Maskwell are still in town, but Muerty doesnt, same with the prestigue mission and the theme of have, gone. Sorry for the late reply --Hikaru 07:04, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

Source of Tooltips

So, you may have notice that im messing with images, deleting those who have no use but are in cats, adding "|helmet/armor etc]]" to cats in tooltips correcting some tags but i dunno what you think of me deleting Tooltip's thanks, like this one for example. Do you think it is rude if i delete them even if its been a while now? They look good in the "---" white box tho. And was thinking too, this may encourage people to help with the tooltip's views knowing they will be credit and now forgotten. What do you think? --Hikaru 07:09, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

I only remove the thanks if I get a new visual of the item (such as the full tooltip body). If I get it from the same person I leave it. This information is always available in the file history, as long as people remember to do it when they upload the file (or if it's edited in they can check the file history tab, but that's not as good regarding files). Yes, we should retain this information whenever possible. We never mention individuals in the mainspace, but here we're talking about the filespace of a gaming wiki. SK's community is generally a lot more willing to help if they feel their contributions are acknowledged in some way. It's also prudent to source things whenever possible for authentication reasons, and images certainly have a source. I almost always forget to mention "this example was found on the Auction House during the relevant promotion" etc. due to rapid uploads and it being the default mostly-reliable-due-to-unknown-players-putting-things-up source for many promotion items. --Novaster 15:05, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
But I always ask if they want to remain anonymous, I have a few that do, especially for rare items so people don't go after them trying to make them sell it etc. I try to remember to say thanks to user: "Anonymous" for sharing this item in that case. It's all somewhat silly in general. --Novaster 16:13, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
Oh! i see :)! Well, i get the tooltips from Auction House, but i really dont feel like putting that. I think we can stick to only "Thanks to user:" when someone help with sharing the item via Trade Windows (and the annonimous for what u just said too) because i think it is obvious that if it doesnt have the "Thanks to" it is taken from a public space (AH) so, while navigating, people would see the white "---" table and know the credit is for a User, but if they see nothing they know it was taken from AH. Seems better to me. Do we stick to it? I think i erase a few while adding cats till i notice "oh wait" and came here to tell you, but i havent even start with "cleaning" the cat/tags of the files yet, so i will restore the ones i delete by mistake and/or without know.
This would be my "method" of "cleaning" the galleries from costumes and accessories:
  • Tooltip animations would be like this (that is singular, plural will replace "This one is " by "Those one are ", tell me if its good because "Those" and "These" are confusing words for me xD)
  • Preview images AND Equipped images would be like this (same with singular "this" and plural "those", only if the file represent a group, for example, Tails Tails and Golden Laurel are unique so they would have just the representative tag)
  • Overworld animations would be like this this, but i wanted to ask, when it is some especific item (like this), what do you think, do i add the acc tag or the representative tag?
Sorry for the long reply this is a silly edit but i notice some preview are in Acc cat, others in the Representative cat, some have what the item is, others dont, so i want to make ALL of these files the same. In the Animations, i put the APNG tag first because i though u did the same so people could see the "Don't see the animation" first --Hikaru 20:41, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
Yeah I'm gonna wait a bit for examples to show up on the AH before digging in to the work. I can make a template for what you're trying to do. I often find images around other wikis where the picture includes other entities and it drives me insane not knowing what they are as a noob and I have to do some crazy digging to figure it out. But this would work for our representative images as well. So, guess I know what I'm doing today! --Novaster 20:47, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
So yeah I really wish other wikis would do something similar to Template:ImageInfo for images such as this WHAT ELSE IS HE WEARING? WHAT IS THAT DINOSAUR? (I know what they are, but you get the idea - a new player wouldn't!) This should work for our "representative images" of single tooltip entities too, but is more useful for things such as this. --Novaster 21:12, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
Oh i like it :D! But couldnt be a way to all be include in the template? Correct me in any mistakes xD. Like... Im gonna use the Aura-Preview as example for what im trying to explain:
{{ImageInfo
|type = an Aura
|name = Snowfall Aura
|personal color = Ultramarine
|height modifier = Extra Tall
|helmet = Polar Day Wolf Hood
|armor = Polar Day Wolf Coat
|others =
Polar Wings
Polar Crest
}}

It will show the same as the actual (maybe we could add the acc's icons+text tinier compared to the helmet-armor-main item but you dont have to add *{{equip|Item}} and the "As well as:". --Hikaru 21:38, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

Yeah you can just stick that template in there if you feel it fits. --Novaster
I might be able to modify Template:Appearance for easy use, just a few minutes. Working on something else atm too. --Novaster 21:52, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
Oh yeah, but i meant in the ImageInfo format only, i prefer icons of the equip template and we leave the apparecente template for NPCpages and others formats (not image's description). Do you mind if i try to make that example up there in the template? It makes me show you what i mean and learn a little more the code stuff ^^ --Hikaru 22:06, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
Agh icons. Lemme try one more time - don't want an edit conflict. --Novaster 22:17, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
How's that? --Novaster 22:25, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
It is good, well, the apparence template can stay but i think the Snowfall Aura (in this case) would be top, and the rest of the information above. I mean, the name itself said "Aura-Preview" so the aura is main but wanted to make it clear that is the focus item there, then, the extras (what else the knight have). For some reason i find the {{equip| kinda annoying in this case xD. I mean, i do like it with icons, that is no doubt, but the "equip" template i think it would need to be inside the code, thats why i was thinking the apparence's template wouldnt fit because it works good without the equip template. I will try to make the edits in the ImageInfo's template without too many savepage-edit --Hikaru 22:43, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

Well, I might be done wiki-ing for today. I just noticed that the new citrine stuff just does not match citrine rose, and for some reason this tipped me over into an "I don't want to edit" mode. Yeah. --Novaster 22:36, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

I didnt expect that haha, it is a nice tone of yellow tho, not like regal Dx. Havent see much because there was only one item in AH xD. I would add the common "Prize Box Release" method and create the redirects if my time is enough ^^.
