Monster Resistances and Weaknesses
Each of the six monster families has a damage type they are weak to, one they are neutral to and one they are strongly resistant to. Each member of the Family has the same weaknesses and the same resistance. The table below can be used as a guide. Note: The following table is from the Spiral Knights wiki-page Damage. It is recommended you check out the wiki-page.
Monster Type | Damage Type | Weak To | Neutral To | Strongly Resistant To |
---|---|---|---|---|
Slime Family | Piercing | Shadow | Elemental | Piercing |
Beast Family | Piercing | Piercing | Shadow | Elemental |
Gremlin Family | Elemental | Shadow | Piercing | Elemental |
Construct Family | Elemental | Elemental | Shadow | Piercing |
Fiend Family | Shadow | Piercing | Elemental | Shadow |
Undead Family | Shadow | Elemental | Piercing | Shadow |
Type of Swords
Swords are the main weapons chosen by the Knights. There are swords which deal Normal, Elemental, Piercing and Shadow damage. Sometimes a combination of Damages. It is recommended you check out the Swordmaster Guide. The categories below contain information and swords which I think are the best.
There is the 3-swing sword which deals average damage for a average speed. The most common 3-swing sword is the Calibur, which is given to you in the Rank Mission 3-2 Blades of the Fallen. The best 3-swing swords to my personal opinion are listed below.
Leviathan Blade
The 5* version of the Calibur. Pretty standard. Not much point in using it once you have specialized swords which deal Elemental, Shadow or Piercing Damage.
- Be Aware
- Charge Attack does Knockback
- Knockback can knock enemies away or knock attacking enemies to allies
Brandish
The Brandish series has a wide range of swords to include in your Arsenal. There's the three elemental swords which include the Combuster, Glacies, and the Voltedge. The Combuster deals the fire status, Glacius which deals the Freeze status, and the Voltedge which deals the Shock status. The Combuster and the Glacius series are easiest to get, due to the recipes being in the Hall of Heroes. The Voltedge however, has the best status out of all of the Elemental swords, but is hard to get. The Voltedge can be acquired either by the Auction House(Rarely), by Sullivan, or Basil. The Acheron which does Shadow damage is one of the best Shadow swords i have encountered.
Barbarous Thorn Blade
The Thorn Blade is the best piercing sword in my opinion. The Flourish series has a wider range of blades but the Final Flourish and the BTB have the same combo and damage. The difference is the charge attack. Final Flourish is a forward strike and the Thorn Blade does a ranged attack. It sends out thorns in front of you and a hologram of a Snarbolax biting as well which deals damage. Much like the Divine Avenger charge attack except without the Snarbolax. The Thorn Blade is a fast weapon so be careful using it. Using Auto Aim would be recommended. In the Swordmaster Guide, it says that the Thorn Blade is a Fast Weapon. In most cases the Thorn Blade is considered a "Fast" Weapon. However, it follows a three-swing combo and that is why it is in this category.
- Be Aware
- The 2nd and 3rd swing lunges the user forward. Maybe into hazards like floor spikes.
Slow Swords or Heavy Swords deal massive amount of damage for the cost of speed (2-Swing Sword). The normal combo of the Heavy swords generally leaves the user vulnerable on the 2nd swing. It would be effective if you use only the 1st swing unless you know the 2nd strike will hit the target. The 1st swing knockbacks enemies and the 2nd swing normally doubles the amount of damage of the 1st swing and does knockback.
Divine Avenger
The Divine Avenger is easily one of my favorite heavy swords. It does good damage overall even though it's a elemental sword which does less damage against Gremlins and Beasts. The charge attack creates three sword blades that strike as a ranged attack and is good for crowds. The ranged blades deals knockback meaning it has the opportunity to strike the enemy two or three times.
- Be Aware
- Charge Attack does Knockback
- Knockback can knock enemies away or knock attacking enemies to allies
- Second Swing of the Normal Combo will leave you vulnerable
Fast Swords to me aren't really worth it. I prefer swords that deal good damage rather than swords that are fast. The only series of Fast swords i like is the Cutter series. Dread Venom Striker is one of the swords that can inflict Poison, and i find it useful for Jelly King.
Cutter
The Cutter series is my favorite fast swords of all. The Dread Venom Striker is an impressive 5 star weapon and i wouldn't mind adding it to my Arsenal. However, i don't really like it that much for me to upgrade it before my other weapons. I do have a Striker though.
- Be Aware
- Charge Attack is exactly like the Normal Combo. Except you can't change direction
- Normal Combo may lunge you into floor hazards like Floor Spikes
Types of Shields
Shields are one of the most important gear that a Knight needs. There are only three shields with abilities and only two of them are actually useful...
- Scarlet Shield - +2 Health Bonus
- Barbarous Thorn Shield - Sword Damage Bonus: Medium
- Swiftstrike Buckler - Attack Speed Increase: High
The other shields i would recommend is the Volcanic Plate Shield, Grey Owlite Shield and the Crest of Almire. All these shields are great for FSC.
