Material/Sandbox

Certain materials are sold by Brinks, Sullivan, or other vendors in exchange for tokens. Most materials are unbound and can be sold in the Auction House. Some materials are much more valuable than others of the same star level, due to their rarity or their use in crafting popular items. Unwanted materials can be crafted into sprite food or sold to vendors for small amounts of crowns:

When in default, lists are ordered by Date of Release, by star and then alphabetically if tied. Specific acquisition details are available on individual material pages.

Standard

Most materials are acquired randomly while adventuring in the Clockworks, obtained as monster or treasure box drops. The prize wheel can also reward materials. Defeating monsters in an appropriate area is generally the most efficient way to find desired materials. Higher-ranked materials have a better chance of dropping on deeper levels of the Clockworks. In general, it is best to go to the end of a stratum's depth range to hunt for specifics. Otherwise, as deep as possible on elite difficulty is better for general material collecting. Here is an outline of where to find standard materials:

Unless it is a mineral shard or a 1* material, a given material is associated with one monster family or a single status theme. A monster in a given depth will have a drop table of possible materials associated with its family and status. Combat areas that are themed with a status will have more monsters of that status type. Sort the following list by stratum and consider the above depth information to decide where to look for the best chances of finding desired items.

Cooling Cell	★★☆☆☆	{{{theme}}}	A small device used in complex machines to keep them from overheating. Also handy to keep in your pockets on hot summer days.
Critter Carapace	★★☆☆☆	{{{theme}}}	A chitinous chunk carefully shucked from a Clockworks creature. It's in surprisingly good shape.

Grave Soil	★★☆☆☆	{{{theme}}}	Dreadful dirt dredged from a creepy crypt. It is always a little cold to the touch.
Gremlin Gizmo	★★☆☆☆	{{{theme}}}	A strange device used in gremlin machinery. It is inscribed with a warning against exposing it to direct sunlight or submerging it in water.
Iron Gear	★★☆☆☆	{{{theme}}}	A metal gear that was once a component of a complicated contraption.
Monster Bone	★★☆☆☆	{{{theme}}}	An intact bone from a now-deceased beast.
Nightshade	★★☆☆☆	{{{theme}}}	A hazardous herb that's bad for most beasts, but tasty to a teeming variety of toxic creatures.
Owlite Feather	★★☆☆☆	{{{theme}}}	A small feather plucked from an Owlite, said to be a mythical race of great magician birds.

Sinful Brew	★★☆☆☆	{{{theme}}}	A noxious drink favored by all fiends. Despite its prevalence, it's officially outlawed in the Underworld as a marketing ploy.
Static Clinger	★★☆☆☆	{{{theme}}}	A latent strand of energy that floats throughout the Clockworks, frequently catching onto hair and clothing. It's too large to properly distill into Energy, but it's very useful in alchemy.
Swordstone	★★☆☆☆	{{{theme}}}	A fine chunk of natural rock perfect for honing the edge of a deadly blade.
Waste Module	★★☆☆☆	{{{theme}}}	A small receptable that once collected refuse from a device built to wreak havoc. Now, it just plain reeks.
Drake Scale	★★★☆☆	{{{theme}}}	A solid scale wrested from a brutal beast.
Blaze Pepper	★★★★☆	{{{theme}}}	A delectable spice hoarded by Clockworks beasts in anticipation of a winter that never comes. In powdered form, it has a terrible habit of clinging to absolutely everything.
Blighted Bone	★★★★☆	{{{theme}}}	A peculiar patella that's seen better days, after having seen a few better knights.
Warp Dust	★★★★☆	{{{theme}}}	A light dust left behind when a creature travels at unbelievable speed. It tastes great in dip.
