Talk:Dapper Combo (Costume)

From SpiralKnights

Dapper Combo has not been removed from the game: Nick stated he would be returning at some point in the future. Additionally, there is no proof that Nick's knight holds the only existing copy of this piece of equipment, nor is it stated anywhere that he is the only Three Rings Staff member capable of spawning this item. The items files remain ingame, and Three Rings Staff members have always been able to create any object, even ones from as long ago as the Preview Event. Thus, the "GMonly" tag is mutually exclusive to the "Obselete" tag. --HexZyle 19:53, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

HexZyle, in no place did he say he was coming back. The Dapper Combo was only used by Nick, and in all probability no other GM will use it. While it may remain in the files of the game, it does not remain in use. If it is not in use by anybody, it is not present in the game. -- Wombatlad

"While it may remain in the files of the game"
I stand by my previous statement of the fact that if something exists in the files, a developer can spawn it. Thus the GMonly template is mutually exclusive to the obsolete tag. This goes doubly so for any category of equipment (in this case, a costume) which is still applicable in the current game. Since the obsolete tag states "Information presented here may no longer apply to the current game", and no category of equipment has
The GMonly template is applied to an item that was originally seen on a developer, and has not yet been made available to players. It is not up to us to decide what the developers cannot do.
The obselete template is applied to an item or mechanic that was originally available to players, but was later removed. An article with the "obsolete" template cannot later have a GMonly template added, because 1. It originally was available to players, and thus confusion may arise if a player-held object from the past is suddenly classified as "Three Rings only" and 2. Anything that was in the game at one point in time is obviously achievable by the developers, so a GMonly template would be stating the obvious.
"If it is not in use by anybody, it is not present in the game"
This is a flawed argument - if all owners of Plague Needles vendored them, would that mean that Plague Needles are obsolete? No, because the mechanic still exists for them to be obtained. Can you slap an obsolete template on the Cake Slice because it's not in the game? No, because it has a planned future use.
Here's my logic:
  • A Plague Needle is not obsolete even if no-one owns it because it has a listed obtain method in its "Recipe" section.
  • The Cake Slice is not obsolete even though it's not ingame because it has the "Anniversary" template. Its source of obtaining is from the Anniversary, even though that is not currently possible, it will be possible next anniversary.
  • The Dapper Combo is not obsolete even though (you are assuming that) no-one owns it because it has the "GMonly" template. Its source of obtaining is from a OOO Staff Member using the /spawn command.
In finishing, the GMonly, 1YAexpired, DHFexpired, SAexpired, and KCexpired templates ARE obsolete templates, just reworded to be more specific for the specialised category that they serve. Thus, they are all mutually exclusive. --HexZyle 12:06, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
