Cradle is the strange planet on which Spiral Knights is set.
Layout
Cradle has an elaborate machinery inside it, called the Clockworks. It is organized into gates that provide access to different sections, levels found in each tier and the subtowns at the beginning of lower tiers.
Gates
An empty, dormant gate is created every two days by the Clockworks. Knights go down into the various dungeons to collect minerals, and deposit minerals into these dormant gates.
A gate has a countdown timer; every two days, it goes down one, until it opens.
When it opens, the Clockworks use the minerals to construct a dungeon connected to the gate.
Inhabitants
Strangers appear to be one of the predominant life forms on Crade, along with Gremlins.
