The Artifact is a mysterious object that certain gremlins desire. They claim that it possess great power.
Notes
Its body appears to be composed of faceted discs that rotate and flash. A faint blue light pulses softly around it.
Lore
Mysterious Consoles
As of release 2014-05-21, two locations in the Clockworks feature a strange round console related to The Artifact. The end of the Royal Jelly Palace has what appears to be a broken console. Another console in the depths of the Firestorm Citadel is operational.
Obtaining the Artifact
The Artifact is first encountered at the end of 1-2 Mission: The Ancient Generator after defeating Schemer Razwog's Battle Pod. After restoring power, The Artifact is in the care of Rhendon, both in the Rescue Camp and the 1-4 Mission: Crossing the Chasm. During this journey, Razwog appears again and manages to obtain The Artifact, only to be defeated shortly afterwards. The Artifact is stored in the The Lab for study.
Assault on Haven
An investigation of the Haven Garrison in the 4-2 Mission: A New Threat reveals a group of gremlins attacking The Lab. Rhendon and various other allies fight seemingly endless waves of both Ironclaw and Darkfang gremlins. As the player reaches the back of the lab, Herex appears. His motives for stealing The Artifact remain unclear as Herex retreats with it in hand.
Activation
Herex uses The Artifact at the end of 10-2 Mission: Shadowplay to successfully power a Mysterious Console in the Firestorm Citadel. This leads to the player encountering The Swarm in the 10-2 Mission: Dreams and Nightmares, where Herex disappears. The Artifact remains in the depths of the Citadel and cannot be removed.
