Sword Analysis

Slow Swords

2 combo swords, blah blah

Divine Avenger

Divine Avenger

Combo: A normal 2-hit combo with average knockback.
Charge: A high-damage slash that produces three large sword projectiles. These travel out and to the sides of the player, knocking back enemies.

This sacred blade is a popular choice among players. It is excellent at crowd control, able to hold Constructs and Undead at bay with ease. However, crafting it requires recipes that can only be obtained from Basil.

Strengths
  • Best crowd control elemental sword
  • Charge can knock back enemies very far, damage them several times
Potential Hazards:
  • Damage output isn't high unless you hit several enemies at once
  • Charge attack makes some enemies dodge/shield
  • Charge attack is very good at alerting Gun Puppies and Howlitzers

Gran Faust

Gran Faust

Combo: A normal 2-hit combo with average knockback. The second hit has a small chance of causing curse.
Charge: A high-damage slash that creates a very large sword projectile. It travels forward a few blocks, knocking back enemies and cursing them.

The shadow counterpart to the Divine Avenger, the Gran Faust occupies a similar niche. Great for crowd control, although it performs much better at that against Slimes than it does Gremlins. Crafting it requires recipes that can only be obtained from Basil.

Strengths
  • Only crowd control shadow sword
  • Can deal the curse status, which damages enemies whenever they attack
Potential Hazards:
  • Damage output isn't high unless you hit several enemies at once
  • Charge attack has small potential of alerting turrets
  • Charge attack can curse the player, making it risky to use

Warmaster Rocket Hammer

Warmaster Rocket Hammer

Combo: An initial swing followed by a dash that can damage enemies 3 times, followed by a more damaging swipe.
Charge: The player lunges forward twice in succession, smashing down the hammer each time.

Only obtainable from Operation Crimson Hammer, this weapon occupies a unique niche. While its smaller range makes it a weaker option for crowd control, it is amazing at pulverizing stationary enemies. Howitzers and Gun Puppies can be taken out very quickly with the dash, and heavy enemies like Lumbers are also vulnerable, as are enemies pressed up against walls. In addition, the dash can be avoided if a player shield cancels when attacking.

Strengths
  • Amazingly high DPS if all attacks hit
  • Charge can knock back enemies very far, damage them several times
  • The dash can be used to escape from a crowd of enemies
Potential Hazards:
  • It is possible to dash into traps or spikes by accident
  • Players attacking with the charge can move into traps or get hit easily
  • Can only really target one enemy at a time
  • Charge attack is very good at alerting Gun Puppies and Howlitzers

Medium Swords

3 combo swords, blah blah

Leviathan Blade

Leviathan Blade

Combo: A normal, three hit combo
Charge: A 360º spin with massive knockback. Hits up to 3 times.

This dependable blade performs decently in all situations. The spammable charge is great for taking out turrets and keeping enemies at bay. If a monster is pinned against a wall or is otherwise prevented from being knocked back, the charge can hit three times.

Strengths
  • Charge can hit stationary enemies three times
  • Charge has massive knockback
  • Recipe is given as a mission reward free of charge
Potential Hazards:
  • Does normal damage, so not strong against any monster family

Cold Iron Vanquisher

Cold Iron Vanquisher

Combo: A normal, three hit combo
Charge: A 360º spin with massive knockback. Hits up to 3 times.

This sword is identical to the Leviathan Blade, except that it sacrifices some damage for a Damage Bonus vs Undead: High bonus. Against non-undead monsters, the Leviathan blade does more damage.

Strengths
  • Charge can hit stationary enemies three times
  • Charge has massive knockback
  • Does extra damage to Undead
Potential Hazards:
  • Does normal damage, so not strong against any monster family
  • Recipe must be purchased, unlike with the Leviathan Blade
  • Does less raw damage than the Leviathan Blade

Fang of Vog

Fang of Vog

Combo: A normal three hit combo, but at a slower speed than other swords. Each hit can light the enemy on fire.
Charge: A 360º spin with massive knockback. Hits up to 4 times. Massive range, lights enemies on fire. Chance of lighting the player on fire as well.

This daredevil sword has a weak combo but a strong charge. The Fang of Vog can one-hit KO a lumber that gets hit all four times with the charge. However, the backlash fire damage makes this sword very risky to use without serious fire resistance.

Strengths
  • Charge can hit stationary enemies four times
  • Charge has massive knockback
  • Sword can be obtained for 40 Almirian Seals-no crafting cost
Potential Hazards:
  • Standard combo is slow and does low damage
  • Charge can set player on fire

Fast Swords

The flourish line of swords is a series of rapiers that have a unique three hit combo. Unlike the slashing motion of most swords, flourishes slice and stab, and attack at a slightly higher speed as well.

The first attack from a flourish-line sword is a wide slash that has decent range and covers a wide area - indeed, this attack is what has made the flourish such a popular weapon in Lockdown. The other two attacks of the combo are thrusting motions that carry the player forward, and only have a sufficient attack width to hit one enemy at a time.

Final Flourish

Final Flourish

Combo: A fast 3-hit combo; one wide sweep followed by two narrow lunges
Charge: A short forward charge that can hits for high damage several times

This dependable saber is excellent for killing Beasts and Fiends. The charge works well against Trojans and Howitzers, and can one hit KO monsters if they are hit correctly.

Strengths
  • Charge can deal massive damage if used correctly
  • Excellent at interrupting enemy attacks
Potential Hazards:
  • Lunges can make players move into hazards

Barbarous Thorn Blade

Barbarous Thorn Blade

Combo: A fast 3-hit combo; one wide sweep followed by two narrow lunges
Charge: The player hops back a short distance, then attacks with a wide swipe that unleashes several projectiles in a cone.

This sword is identical to the Final Flourish except for the charge attack. This sword's charge is better suited to dealing small damage to spread out enemies instead of doing massive damage to tightly groupd enemies.

Strengths
  • Charge can deal massive damage if used correctly
  • Excellent at interrupting enemy attacks
Potential Hazards:
  • Lunges can make player move into hazards

Fearless Rigadoon

Fearless Rigadoon

Combo: A fast 3-hit combo; one wide sweep followed by two narrow lunges. Each attack has a small chance of causing stun.
Charge: A short forward charge that can hits for high damage several times. This attack can stun enemies

Identical in attack patterns to the Final Flourish, this sword sacrifices damage for the ability to stun opponents. It does approximately 83% of the damage a Final Flourish would.

Strengths
  • Charge can deal massive damage if used correctly
  • Excellent at interrupting enemy attacks
Potential Hazards:
  • Lunges can make players move into hazards
  • Does significantly less damage than a Final Flourish

Furious Flamberge

Furious Flamberge

Combo: A fast 3-hit combo; one wide sweep followed by two narrow lunges. Each attack has a small chance of causing fire.
Charge: A short forward charge that can hits for high damage several times. This attack can also light enemies on fire

Identical in attack patterns to the Final Flourish, this sword sacrifices damage for the ability to set enemies alight.

Very Fast Swords

These swords have a smaller range and deal less damage per hit, but compensate with a blistering number of attacks dished out at a dizzying rate. There are only two swords that have this combo type, Dread Venom Striker and Wild Hunting Blade.

While a very fast sword has a 5 attack combo, each attack hits twice. The first hit is that of the sword itself, and a second hit immediately after deals about half the damage of the sword. While the attack rate is very fast, it takes many hits to make an enemy flinch or be interrupted.

Dread Venom Striker

Dread Venom Striker

Combo: A 5 hit combo. Each attack hits twice. All attacks inflict poison. Every attack after the first thrusts the player forward one block.
Charge: A series of slashes that ends with a forward lunge. It takes several seconds to complete.

This normal damage blade poisons enemies fairly frequently.

Strengths
  • Player can move fairly quickly when attacking, dodging some enemy attacks
  • Good DPS against some enemies, like Vanaduke's Mask
Potential Hazards:
  • The sword is hard to control, and can land a player in a pit of spikes if they are not careful
  • Attacks don't make the enemy flinch much, potentially resulting in getting damaged
  • Charge attack takes several seconds to complete and leaves the player vulnerable to attack

Wild Hunting Blade

Wild Hunting Blade

Combo: A 5 hit combo. Each attack hits twice.
Charge: Several slashes before a final lunge that deals more damage. It takes several seconds to complete.

This is identical to the Dread Venom Striker, trading in poison for Damage Bonus vs Beasts: High. Besides that, it behaves essentially the same.
