Crowns are arguably the most important (albeit simple) item in Spiral Knights. You can buy crystal energy from the energy depot with it, purchase gear from vendors and the Auction House with it, get unique variants from Punch... crowns have so many uses! Therefore, acquiring a vast amount of the commodity allows more of the game to be enjoyed. There are many ways to earn crowns quickly and legitimately, and this guide shares a few options.
Legitimate Methods
Using these methods to earn crowns is fair and there are no negative consequences.
Recipe Selling
This is a very simple way to earn quite a bit of crowns, but there are many things that can go wrong, so be careful. The main idea is to join as many parties as possible before depth 12, buying Basil-only recipes from Basil at the terminal at depth 13, and going back to Haven to auction them off at a higher price and earning a large profit.
Prerequisites
- Tier 2 access
- 4000 Crowns
- 20 Energy (Or possibly more)
- Friends who do tier 2
- Guild membership
Rationale
All 3 star recipes from Basil cost 4000 crowns, and the Basil-only ones can usually be sold for 7000 crowns or higher in the Auction House. That's a 3000 crown profit using 4000 crowns, or a 75% profit. To earn the same rate from a 5 star recipe (bought from Basil for 25000 crowns), one must sell the recipe for 43750 crowns. To earn the 75% rate for 4 star recipes (bought for 10000 crowns), one must sell for 17500 crowns. 5 star recipes sell for around the 30000-40000 crown area, and 4 star recipes sell for around the 12000-16000 crown area, so they are not as profitable as 3 star recipes. 2 star recipes simply do not have much interest from buyers, as they can usually be able to just buy the item from the Auction House at a cheap price instead of crafting it.
Terminals
The clockwork terminal at depth 13 sells 3 star recipes which gain the most profit. However, to be able to buy recipes from Basil, one must first join the party at depth 11 or earlier. So, it is recommended to join a guild or at least have a large amount of friends who do tier 2 clockworks frequently to be able to "jump in" at depth 11 or a few depths before.

Potential Pitfalls
- It is not recommended to buy recipes to sell other than the ones on the preceding list, as many others can either be bought from Kozma or simply are not wanted by a large consumer base.
Blast Network Farming
This method of earning crowns is more tedious than the previous one, but does not require energy. You just play lots of blast network to earn Krogmo Coins, redeem them for items from Sullivan, and sell the items on the Auction House.
Prerequisites
- 1000 Crowns
Rationale
Assuming that one has a 50/50 win-lose rate, a player only needs to play 7 games of Blast Network, thus winning at least 3 times, to earn at least 10 Krogmo Coins. Because winning gives you back your crowns, only losing actually loses you crowns. So, you'd lose around 600 or 800 crowns. However, winning earns you back 240 of those crowns, or 80 crowns per win, so your net loss is only around 360 or 560 crowns. Using the 10 Krogmo Coins to purchase an enamorock, you can sell off the enamorock for around 1500 crowns and earn a profit of about 1000 crowns. In addition, if you win more, then the losses will lose you less money, and the enamorock selling will earn more crowns as there are less expenses.
Lockdown Farming
This has the same idea as the previous method, but instead of playing Blast Network, Lockdown is played instead.
Prerequisites
- 1000 Crowns
Rationale
This method should only be selected if one is skilled at playing Lockdown. If one's win-loss rate for Lockdown is better than the win-loss rate for Blast Network, then Lockdown should be played. Then follow the same rationale as the previous strategy.
Unethical Methods
Using such methods are against the rules and are listed solely to deter the reader of following such actions that could get their account banned or result in other negative consequences.
Arena Looping
The user parks an alternate account at the beginning of an arena, or any other profitable location (Depth 11, for example). Then the user joins the account, goes solo, and beats the arena or does whatever that earns money. After finishing, the user goes back up to Haven and rejoins the alt, goes solo, and does the arena/whatever over and over again.
