Special Effect are animated graphical entities added onto many items in Spiral Knights. These are organized by behavior on this wiki. Please note that these are not official terms used in the game itself.

  • Some accessories might be considered "pure special effects", such as auras. These effects are hard to classify, but there are a few main types that appear quite often.
  • Check out the Special Effects subcategories to search for various items that have these effects. Some items have more than one special effect! Sometimes the effect is only on one or a few areas of the entity, not the entire form.
  • Graphics settings may change how some of these effects look in certain environments. Even some effects can change how things look - ghostly aura tends to shade things quite a bit, for example.
  • A few color schemes commonly have certain special effects (but not always):
    • Volcanic: Glowing and Shedding
    • Divine: Shining
    • Shadow: Shedding
    • Prismatic: Glowing

The Steam Knight Mask occasionally emits steam (audible). Working on finding more items that shed particles at intervals (vs constantly) to warrant a category. Wings that flap are also audible...hmm.

Special Effects

The following table has a few examples of special effects:

Special Effect
Effect Description
Burning Fiery effects behave similarly to glowing and shedding, but are very specific to ember particles, flames, burning, and so on.
Glowing Light effects diffuse out, similar to a light bulb.
Shedding Particles of some type constantly fall or emanate around the entity
Sheen Light reflects off a surface
Shining Similar to glowing, but light effects are much more like sunlight or rays
Sparking Effects show up quickly, flashing, similar to (and sometimes as) electricity or fuses
Sparkling Similar to sheen, but light particles glimmer or twinkle on their own
Trailing Similar to shedding, but the particles stay behind the entity for a while if the entity is traveling
Vibrating The entity fluctuates slightly but obviously in size or back and forth/up and down
