This item has been available since release 2011-04-04 when the game officially launched.
In Greek mythology, Aegis is the shield of the goddess Athena. In modern usage, aegis refers to the protection of a benevolent force — in this case, perhaps the Spiral Order, whose symbol Aegis carries. Behind the shield there are two Side Blade-like objects.
