The Dark City is a region. Regions categorize levels with similar characteristics that have been incorporated into the Clockworks.

Description

This once bustling city from an advanced world is now home to innumerable fiends from the Underworld. Under the light of the moon they burn their dark sigils into the ground, summoning more of their cohorts for reasons yet unknown.

The Dark City area has been available for exploration since release 2011-04-04 when the game officially launched.

Each level map is fixed (vs. composed of random segments). When accessible via the arcade, they are found in a rotation of 1-3 levels in the depth they occupy depending on the level:

  • Ritual Road levels have a rotation of 3 minutes. They are always found in a rotation of 3 with the other Ritual Roads.
  • Sinful Steps levels have a level rotation of 1 minute 45 seconds. They are always found in a rotation of 2 with each other.
  • Plazamonium is always the only level in the depth it occupies.
  • Stygian Steeds is exclusive to Tier 3 and is always the only level in the depth it occupies.

Compared to other areas, Dark Cities are an uncommon sight in arcade gates.

Similar urban terrain can be seen in Concrete Jungle and Devilish Drudgery areas.

A piercing sword will take care of fiends and is fine against undead. A bomb such as the Electron Vortex or Dark Briar Barrage will help quickly defeat groups of enemies here. Bring a handgun such as the Blitz Needle to charge up and decimate groups from behind blocks and across gaps.
