As always, use whatever gear you are most comfortable with, as long as it does not interfere with the strategies and success of the squad. Some gear can be significantly more expensive than others, so you should always factor in economics when considering loadout options for missions. Will the gear help with only a few specific areas, or many? Will it pay for itself quickly, if at all? There is usually more than one way to solve problems - these are what work for many players.

The loadout guide for this mission is a piercing+shadow hybrid. Popular choices are the Skolver + Snarbolax, considering they both give the corresponding defenses and freeze resistance. For gunners, the Sacred Grizzly Hex set is a good choice. The Black Kat set is a good offensive set and has uses in many other expeditions. Any additional resistance from UVs, trinkets, or perks can potentially grant immunity to wisp and soul status throughout the mission. Nearly all the monsters in this mission are weak to piercing, and none resist it. The Blitz Needle can defeat Trojans in one charge attack and deals heavy damage to Maulos. Weapons that are good at quickly destroying souls are useful. Additionally, elemental guns that are good at dealing with Howlitzers are great to have for the first depth's final battle, where respawning Howlitzers are used to open gates.
