This item might allude to the anime 'Tengen Toppa Gurren-Laggan', where a character named Kamina wears a similar object. While similar shades appear in other anime, it should be noted that Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann uses the term "Spiral Knights" for the historic defenders of Earth.
