==How do I land alchemer ricochets?==
 +
 +
Ricochets on alchemer regular shots go in a somewhat random direction, but always to the left from the viewpoint of your knight. For example:
 +
* If you fire north (up the screen), then the ricochet will go west (left on the screen).
 +
* If you fire west, then the ricochet will go south.
 +
* If you fire southeast, then the ricochet will go northeast.
 +
So make sure auto-targeting is off. Don't aim for the center of your target. Aim for the side of your target, so that the shot hits your target and the ricochet goes into your target. For example:
 +
* If your target is north of you, then aim at its east side. When the ricochet goes west, it hits the target.
 +
* If your target is west of you, then aim at its north side. When the ricochet goes south, it hits the target.
 +
* If your target is southeast of you, then aim at its southwest side. When the ricochet goes northeast, it hits the target.
 +
 +
Charge shot ricochets are similar, but they go in both directions — left and right. So aim for either side of your target, so that half of the ricochets go into it. If you have two targets standing close to each other, then try aiming between them. A Nova Driver charge can one-shot-kill two lumbers like this.

This page answers some of the most frequently asked questions on the Spiral Knights forums.

How do I set a forum picture/avatar?

Log into the forums. Near the top of any forum page is a link that says "Forum Preferences". Click on it, then click "Edit" and select a picture from the list.

Custom pictures are not possible. Once you select a picture, you cannot revert to having no picture.

How do I earn crowns quickly?

The guild Lancer Knightz has detailed data on crown payouts of missions. Boss missions and danger missions pay well, but so do some other missions. For extra crowns, consider trading your boss tokens for Snarbostuffing, Jelly Glue, Schemer Scraps, and Dark Embers. (Check Auction House prices first.) Or trade them for items and sell those to vendors.

Skepticraven has detailed data on treasure boxes, crowns, and rarities throughout the Clockworks. The data are hard to sort through, but they support the conventional wisdom, that even-numbered strata pay more than odd-numbered strata.

You can earn crowns re-selling certain recipes from Basil. Recipes that aren't sold in the Hall of Heroes are a good place to start. These include gunner update (release 2014-12-03) recipes and recipes for upgrading boss reward items. But not all boss recipes are lucrative, and some other recipes may be lucrative. Research the Auction House.

You can also speculate on the energy market or the accessary market, but those require additional research and risk.

How do I get Orbs of Alchemy?

The fastest way to get Orbs of Alchemy is to save crowns (or real money), use those crowns to buy energy, and use that energy to buy Orbs (from the Supply Depot). Alternatively, you can buy individual Orbs from other players, but usually for a higher price than from the Supply Depot.

Of course, it is also possible to find Orbs in the Clockworks, but this strategy is very slow. By the time you've found enough Orbs, you've probably found much more than enough crowns to buy the Orbs outright. In other words, if you insist on finding rather than buying Orbs, then you are slowing your progress in the game for no good reason.

If you really want to find rather than buy your Orbs, then read the wiki page Rarity to determine your best stratum. Seek out missions and levels in that stratum that have many treasure boxes: danger missions, arenas, danger rooms, treasure vaults, etc. The Lancer Knightz mission data and Skepticraven's Arcade thread can give you more detailed information.

How do I find Radiant Fire Crystals?

Radiants can be found on depth 26 and deeper. On those depths, seek out levels with many treasure boxes: arenas, danger rooms, treasure vaults, etc. Clearly, Firestorm Citadel, Operation Crimson Hammer, and Shadow Lairs are good places to try.

Of course, you can also buy Radiants from the Supply Depot. Heating one 5-star item at 100% forging chances requires 453 Radiants, which is about 6,300 energy, which is about 441,000 crowns at typical energy costs (7,000 per 100). So typically you can find Radiants faster than you can find the crowns to buy them.

For historical context, Fire Crystals were added to the game in release 2013-07-30. Around October 2013 the rates of Radiants dropped, in what players called the "Radiant drought". Rates were explicitly raised again in release 2014-02-26. For me, Radiants per Firestorm Citadel trip went from about 3 to about 21.
