Description
The closest knights can come to the Core is the final terminal at depth 29 - a small terminal in the darkest depths of the Clockworks that looks out over the colossal, ever-beating heart of the world. Lieutenant Vaelyn has been stationed here by Captain Ozlo, with the knowledge that opening the Core and using the energy within to power the Skylark could be the Spiral Knights' only hope of leaving Cradle.
A dedicated team of Technicians at the on-site research camp collect and analyze data from the power surge that occurs with each gate launch. Unfortunately, this is difficult task as very little of the energy from the minerals deposited in the Haven Arcade reaches them at such a depth. The knights posted to this subterranean station are ultimately trying to find the means to activate the Core, using the power of the minerals found within the Clockworks.
The Core itself is a source of enormous amounts of energy. Spiral HQ is at a loss to explain how it is generated and its influence on the Clockworks, as the only knights known to have approached the Core are those of Alpha Squad, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Lieutenant Vaelyn has her own ideas regarding the fate of Alpha Squad and the nature of the Core, believing it to be more than mere machinery.
After the knight's check onto Firestorm Citadel after hearing reports of earthquakes and find Herex at a Console, he is later seen at the entrance to the Core with what seems to be a large Swarm-like creature. As the core opens the knights find out what the Core is and what its purpose is...

History
During the early stages of the Preview Event, The Core housed sixteen boxes and a single Mender congratulating the party for making it so far, but also informing them that the Core was not yet finished.
Some time after this prize room was removed, The Core had become available to open back when gates required minerals to be completed. Three Rings stated that it would not work, but many players deposited into it, hoping to see if they were bluffing. However, more players were convinced it would just waste minerals, even though the wipe was coming soon.
