A soft breeze rippling through the air, a foul stench of poison and contamination. The black shadow peering through the tree's literally playing with it's food. Spotting the beast peeking through the branches, I swiftly took out my firotech alchemer MK II, and without fail in aim, opened fire. The beast disappeared almost instantly, vanishing through the air. My party members staring forward at the lair- the lair of the Snarbolax. The Snarbolax, bringing fear in its wake, a wave of darkness in the gloaming wildwoods. Entering the beast's home, we prepared our weapons, and it apeared. Black shadows cast everywhere it stood, not a shred of light anywhere close to it. Whipping out my striker, I charged forward, attacking with all my might. But alas! The swift attacks from my sword could do no damage to the beast, not penetrating its thick hide. Near enough we noticed something that tech knights had placed within the lair, a bell that would stun any enemy near it, this could be our only hope. Getting my shield in place, I shuffled towards the bell, while my fellow comrades distracted the beast. They lured it towards the bell and, with speed of a barbarous thorn blade. i hit it with all my might. The Snarbolax instantly becoming a strange yellow colour, we all attacked at once, and finally, we slayed the beast.

Recording: As Spiral HQ is not yet fully operational and most systems are offline, these personal recordings will have to suffice as a record of our expedition until HQ can establish an Uplink system with squads in the field. The clockworks are both fascinating and horrifying. Within a seemingly impossible machine all manners of alien worlds exist within the giant globes that endlessly churn through every floor. What purpose do they serve? And from where did these worlds come from?

Before the crash the Skylark performed a partial scan of Cradle's surface that revealed what appeared to be a landscape composed of enormous parches of disparate terrain. The Clockworks are a manufactured place, perhaps the worlds they contain are harvested from the terrain above. But how?

We sprinted up the long pathway, a sound of clogging machinery, and the grinding of the the construct all around us, but this is what we should expect of the clockworks, and we were not sure what was coming for us. Whipping out our weapons, we had found out earlier this same day that this was a trap set up by the gremlins, a fearsome hoard of intelligent warriors, they very last tribe you would want to face if travelling alone. As we entered what seemed to be an arena, a horn sounded, and flashing lights rang around our ears. Now I am very familiar with gun puppies, and what I saw rising upon both sides of the arena seemed strangely familiar to the appearance of most gun puppies, except for the fact that these two are 10 times larger! Striking them over and over with my silversix, yet failing to cause any damage! Then I realized that the only way to defeat this terrible twosome was for them to destroy each other! Lifting switches up and down to let their deadly missiles through, each time scoring massive damgage, then they began to shoot out laser beams, dodging all 8 beams, i saw that their defenses had been shut down, and using all the power left in me, reduced them to spare parts.

Recording: We narrowly evaded a gremlin trap today. Ambushed on a platform above a pit of molten slag, we had to hold our own against a horde of the snarling beasts as we dodged incoming rocket fire from above. Fun stuff. Grantz took the full blast of a rocket twice, reacting only with a stagger as if he had discovered a stone in his boot. Sometimes I think that beneath his iron suit is a body of equally heavy iron. It wouldn't surprise me. Parma has been hard on herself, saying that she should have scouted the trap. But how can you scout that is ever in flux? How can you be sure that the path ahead is still safe if you can never be sure it's still even there? This is a world designed to confuse its travellers. It wants to trap and destroy them. I'm starting to think it's like a cat, toying with its prey before delivering the final blow.

I hate cats.

Entering through the sweet-smelling start pad, I has faced many monsters here in the clockworks, but none such as this! The Jelly had been our enemy ever since we first arrived into the clockworks, setting out to kill every last knight on cradle. But, as that is their plan for us, sadly ,we much do the same to them, and that starts with the King. The great Jelly King rose up from the ground, launching minuscule jellies out at every angle, attacking with all our might, scoring a lot of damage to the Royal Jelly. Turning a angry red colour, he began circling his throne room, striking anyone, whether it friend or foe. Noticing instantly that his crown was cracked, one of our team leaps up and strikes it in two. That was the very thing the the Royal One did not like, and struck the young knight down in a single hit, but saying that, it may have been anger that had killed the King, exploding in his own might.

Recording: Someone out there has it in for me. While in recon training I was routinely frustrated by the limits of the training simulations- I knew they were not real. I craved the open air, soil beneath my feet and the wind. I wanted the challenge only the wild can offer. The Skylark crash was horrible, and the resulting situation even worse. But when Captain Ozlo selected me for this squad I was excited- there is no greater wild than what this planet offered. Is that wrong? But then as we stepped off of that first elevator platform and sunlight warmed our faces it began to sink in: the grinding of gears, the buzzing of enormous lights, the smell of smoke and the steam-filled air... the wild we had stepped into was not real. It was another simulation.

More ironic still is how little of my training actually applies now. This world is crazy, the terrain changes constantly. I think this squad would have been better off with another guardian instead of me. At least then they would be better prepared to fight whatever they didn't see coming.

We stepped through the once-thriving ashes of almire, careful to avoid the cursed fire which lay at our feet. Lord Vanaduke himself, standing tall over his burning kingdom, lurking around the lost souls of the people who once served him. He turned around, desperate to see who dared to breach his citadel's defenses. Charging forward, we found it no problem to attack him, as he just stood there, occasionally turning and changing direction, but when he caught eye of a knight shooting him with an argent peacemaker, he lifted his hammer high into the air, and brought it down with thunderous power! We never saw the knight again. He retreated to the back of the arena, and to our profound astonishment, his mask coming off his face, attacking it with all the strength left in me, we brought it back to his body. But now he meant buisness, as he had spheres of fire circling around his body. After hours of effort, he stopped breathing, and with one last gasp, fell, to the ground.

Recording: We have seen so many worlds on this mission, but none such as this. This burning citadel is not some construction of gremlin design. This is a real place, some kind of shell of a former empire. There is great sorrow here, something unlike anything I have felt before. Legions of shambling dead have attacked us here, relentless in their defense of this place. Their broken, burnt frames crumbling and rising once more, ready for another battle. And just as they refuse to fall, so does the burning ruin around them. It is almost as if this whole realm is trapped in a single moment from some forgotten time, never changing, never allowing itself to finally turn to ash. You can feel it in the smoldering air—an eternal will holding this place together, never allowing its inhabitants to rest. No creature deserves such a fate, it is beyond my understanding.

I wish to leave this place soon. I only hope that our doing so will provide some peace to the souls that dwell here.

Entering through the smoldering archway, breathing in the burning atmosphere, there was silence except for the crackle of burnt wreckage. For this was the place where the true legend of fire waited for fresh victims, for no-one had succeeded to slay the fire beast- Vog. Vog is normally thought as a wolver, but its true nature has yet to be revealed, but it has been proven, Vog is one of the toughest so called 'wolvers' you will ever face. It's skin a blood red, its eyes glowing yellow with hatred. We peered around the arena, praying for a glimpse of the monster, and then it rose up from under the ground, heat waves rippling through the air. But that didn't stop us from attacking it, hearing its howls of pain as we sliced against its thick hide. Suddenly a fellow comrade made the grave mistake of taking out a sword known as the 'fang of vog'. Vog spotted this, and attack relentlessly, and without mercy, removed the helpless knight from this life. That is when we realized the size of the challenge before us, but without sparing a thought for our dead party member, we attacked with the same ferocity of the beast itself, striking it down in cold blood. At that moment, we realized that with the fire beast gone, the heat in the air vanished...

Clockworks. A word of great meaning for the gremlins. They are said to have created this world, but we doubt that. How did they have the power to create such a wonder? We will never know. But there is one more gremlin worthy of a visit. The King of the Gremlins- King Tinikizar. He is the leader of the feared tribe we have set out to destroy for so long, and we realized that if we were to destroy the ultimate leader of the Gremlins, they would give up all hope. This is our last chance. We set out over the land, but as we progressed through, more and more gremlins came to our attention. We later learned of a fearless band of Gremlins known as the crimson order, an impenetrable legion of Gremlins who alone come in contact with the great King. We soon realized that the crimson order would do anything in their power, risk every single part of their life, to protect their king. Entering the Gremlin fortress simply known as 'the clockworks', we immediately found ourselves surrounded by a swarm of gremlins. However, we are a strong legion, and were not prepared to give up for a band of 20 gremlins. Using the strength we had gained over the years, we destroyed every last gremlin in sight. But of course we had gained several losses at the expense of killing those gremlins, but despite that, we soldiered on. We soon came in contact with the crimson order, and they ordered us to turn back, and return to haven, but we refused. Relentlessly, they attacked, we we soon learned why they had such a profound reputation. They were the toughest battle I have every encountered, but with honor and power, we were victorious. Entering the throne room, the great king bellowed at us to leave, but we stood strong. Furious and insulted, not familiar with creatures failing to obey his commands, he struck down with the largest hammer I had ever seen, striking the ground with enormous power. Knights lying dead everywhere, it seemed hopeless, but there was still that group who were determined to not give up, striking over and over again. However the Great King seemed to have invincible defenses, but I spoke too soon. With a resounding crash, his defenses breached, we finished the King of the Gremlins, and with hope the entire of the Gremlin army, after so many years of war...

Anger and frustration around the haven air, protests ringing around the garden, for this was the day that the shadow lairs had been released. The shadow lairs rest where the clockwork terminal once stood at depth 23, which is now overcome by the darkness infused by this horror. I had proposed to be one of the 4 members to venture into the first shadow lair, a poisoned version of the gloaming wild-woods. Leaving the normal world as I know it, venturing down into cradle and beyond, who knew of the challenge that lay ahead. As I stepped through the darkness, entering towards the light, i was reminded of my first encounter with the dreaded snarbolax. Making it through the first challenges, i was brought back in time when I was my recon squad back when we slayed the snarbolax. But then reality hit me, and I was back where I stood preparing for the biggest challenge I would ever face. We caught glimpse of a black shadow with green infused spikes, with blood-red eyes, and it looked strangely familiar, but it couldn't be...could it? We had slayed the dreadful beast all those months ago, and there was no chance it could come back. However I was proven wrong in the very next instance. To my astonishment, the dreaded snarbolax jumped up from the ground, desperate to fight once more. I used the same tactics as I did the previous time, however these tactics failed, as the beast was prepared for this, but yet, there was the beast bell in the middle, which I rang to stun the snarbolax senseless, this worked, it turning a fearsome yellow color, yet making it more angry! The beast was now proving to be such a mountain of a challenge, and we were fighting a losing battle, however with profound skill my teammates managed to lure the snarbolax to the bell at exactly the right times, and after stunning it countless times, we were victorious in our great fight.

I dream...

Within my dream, I saw it open the void, felt its endless hunger.

You are safe here, Knight. Within this dream, its many eyes cannot see you nor can its many arms reach you.

But this dream is fleeting. Use what is here to prepare for the battle to come. It knows of you now. It will find a way out and come for you.

The lights flashing, blinding my eyes, as all those months ago I thought I had left this place for good, but alas! Here I was my arm stretched across my eyes to block the light coming from above. Previously, this was the lair of the Roarmulus Twins, but who knew what lay ahead, waiting for its victims. This was the second shadow lair we had been informed to explore, and we were sure that this would be the toughest challenge yet! Preparing for the battle, charging our weapons, unsure of our opponent, we stood proud, determined to overcome this challenge, and there appeared, the Roarmulus Twins. However, this time round, they were a red colour, so the Gremlins have been busy without their King!. But this version of the Twins was far more powerful, so we knew this wouldn't be an easy job. They were using the same attacks from our last encounter with these mechanical menaces, that was until, they launched out flamethrower like attacks from their gigantic mouths! A member of our squad was scorched dead by one of the twins, myself suffering major burns. Gasping in pain, I thought it was over here, but I was determined not to let that fate fall! Using all the power we had left in us, we managed to subdue the twins once more, reducing them to uselessness they had been before, ending the fight we had been pursuing for so long!

This world was created to protect me.

Vulnerable in slumber, worlds were drawn to shield me from the darkness.

This world has become my prison.

In his madness, the architect betrayed the pact. Twisting his creation into a game of death, it now devours all who enter its iron embrace.

A chill in the air, I cannot wait until this treacherous journey comes to an end. I have been through so many ordeals, yet none such as big as this one. To be short, it is freezing. My teeth chattering, icicles hanging from my shield, this path was a challenge in itself. My team and I stepped into the arena, just hoping for this battle to be quick, as no such member of my party could care less about the ice queen. Popping out of thin air, the Ice Queen in all her glory, having successfully taking back her throne. I could barely lift my sword for the cold. We attacked, and were sent back instantly, our feeble attacks having no use as the Ice Queen had a lethal weapon, cold. The cold weakened us, so we had no chance of winning this fight. I was perfectly willing to end all my nightmares and welcome death with open arms, yet my comrades were not yet prepared to let that happen. Lifting me with all their strength, and giving me the hope to soldier on, we attacked, this time our defenses not yet breached. With power and might, the Queen was attacked relentlessly. Weapons flinging out of every nook and cranny. The Queen giving one last blast, and exploded within that. The battle was over! It was time to return to haven, yet we all knew that the battle had just began.

I dream...

Within my dream, I see your legion, falling to this world like burning stars.

You fall with purpose, burning ever brighter as you reach for the heart of this world.

Hold dearly this fire in you, for darkness will consume all the night if its stars begin to fade.

One day, it was a calm and peaceful day in the center of haven. The next, we were on a journey to the Firestorm Citadel. Not so hard, most knights think? This was a shadow lair. This was the ultimate challlenge. Within the mist that surrounded the depth 23 terminal, the spiral warden unlocked the chained gates circling the elevator. A cold breeze rippled through the air as we stepped on. I realized, this could be the end. The elevator trundling down the midst of the clockworks, we didn't dare make a sound. We were afraid believe it or not, so very afraid. Who knew what was to be the challenge that befell on us? No-one did. We stepped out from the darkness, into the bridge section. It resembled the Firestorm Citadel, yet not quite the same. It had a different atmosphere. Fighting on to the armory, we came across a flurry of Trojans. Not a problem for those things called Barbarous Thorn Blades. We came across a gang of cursed dreadknaughts, Divine Avengers to the rescue. We had no other problems until the throne room. We saw Vanaduke. He was purple. Wait what?? He was also very powerful. To be honest, I didn't think we could stand a chance at defeating him. We realized that Vanaduke was cursed, which explains the purple color. But this discovery didn't help our chances one little bit. It took us hours to score any damage, and when we did, it was nearly over. We lay scattered over the ground, Vanaduke pacing around, staring down at our forced-idle eyes. It was over. The journey was over. For the whole squad, the battle was over, at last. We lay there til the life drained out of our bodies, and one by one, we welcomed death, with open arms.

Recovery Squad: We came across the recon squad unconscious in the Shadow Lair: Firestorm Citadel. They had been defeated by Darkfire Vanaduke. We returned them to haven, attempting to revive them, and, succeeding, we recovered the Echo Stone. The recording of which are in this log.

As I dreamed, it consumed.

It devoured the knowledge of time... Memories of the dead... The hearts of kings and the souls of their people... Good and evil... It consumed.

It grew stronger, endlessly mirroring itself within the space of my dream. Endlessly mirroring... Expanding... Infinite.

What it was before, it is no more. Neither beast nor god, it is a creation unlike all.

It is... The Swarm.
