Spiral Wardens are specially-equipped knights who stand guard outside the towns of Cradle.
Description
Spiral Wardens are stationed at every town established by Spiral Knights. They act as guardians and - in the depths of the Clockworks - are responsible for preventing inexperienced knights from venturing deeper than they should. Heavily armoured, they are an imposing sight at the entrance to the subtowns of Moorcroft Manor and Emberlight, and even Haven itself.
In their role as gatekeepers, Spiral Wardens are also stationed at the Hall of Heroes with Lieutenant Barrus.
Spiral Wardens are similar in appearance to Trojans, with equine helms and massive cobalt armor reflecting their Guardian role.
Tier access
Upon reaching a subtown, knights will encounter a Spiral Warden guarding the entrance to the town and next Tier. In order to pass, a knight must have a Star Certification corresponding to the minimum recommended star value of that Tier.
The Spiral Warden stands before a coloured force field. If a knight has not yet been granted access to that Tier, the force field will be red and prevent any passage; when granted access, the force field will be blue and provide no obstacle.
In order to pass through Moorcroft Manor, a knight must have 2-Star Certification, and a Spiral Warden will not allow knights into Emberlight if they do not have a 4-star Certification or higher.
If the Spiral Warden denies a knight access to a subtown, they must return to Haven. Knights can speak with the Spiral Warden to find out what they need to achieve in order to be granted access.
History
Spiral Wardens were once responsible for granting "Tier clearance" to knights, depending upon a number of difference experience-based requirements. Tier access now depends on Star Clearance, which is awarded by Lieutenant Barrus.
While they have always carried Leviathan Blades, Spiral Wardens formerly wore a unique set of gear similar to the Azure Guardian Helmet and Mighty Cobalt Armour with a distinct tabard. The shield carried was no less than an Aegis.
Known Wardens
Only Spiral Warden Virgil, on guard north of the Rescue Camp, is known by name. He warns new recruits about the danger ahead, and while there are no restrictions upon recruits, Virgil effectively guards the only available entrance to the Clockworks.Trivia
The Spiral Warden helmet appears to be a great helm in the shape of a horse's head, with a Divine Mohawk.
The armour appears to be a Cobalt set of heavy Guardian armour, much like the specialised set used in Lockdown battles.
Spiral Wardens carry Leviathan Blades.
