Crafting allows you to take materials obtained while adventuring and use them to create new items or upgrade items you already have. Crafting costs both crowns and energy, in addition to the items listed in the recipe.

When crafting using a bound item, the newly upgraded item will also be bound.

Crafting an Item

Once everything needed for a recipe is acquired, an item can be created at an Alchemy Machine. The process will use up the items, materials, crowns, and energy listed on the recipe. Crafting is not tied to any skill, and the Alchemy Machine will always successfully create your item if you have all the required ingredients and can pay the cost.

Things you will need

In order to begin crafting, three things need to be located: a recipe, the materials detailed in the recipe (including Crowns and Energy), and an alchemy machine.

Recipe

Recipes are purchased from vendors which can be found in Haven and while adventuring on the various levels. Hover over the recipes to see details on the item it will create. After a recipe is purchased, it can be found in your Arsenal under Recipes. Once a recipe is learned, the associated item may be crafted as many times as desired. Recipes cannot be unlearned. The cost of recipes depends on the star level.

Recipe Price:

  • ★☆☆☆☆: 250 crowns
  • ★★☆☆☆: 1,000 crowns
  • ★★★☆☆: 4,000 crowns
  • ★★★★☆: 10,000 crowns
  • ★★★★★: 25,000 crowns

Materials

Materials can be found in the Clockworks while adventuring. Certain recipes may also require other pieces of equipment, or even equipment with certain level of heat. Using recipes to upgrade items creates a more powerful item than the one you started with. Press F5 or select Recipes from the Menu in the upper left corner to bring up the Recipe Manager. Here you can get more information on which materials are needed to create the item. Note that the Recipe Manager can't create the item, for that you need the Alchemy Machines described below.

Higher-ranked materials have a better chance of dropping the deeper you delve into the Clockworks. Here is a general outline of where to find materials of each star rating.

Note: This is not a strict list, and some materials may be found higher or lower in the Clockworks.

  • ☆☆☆☆☆: All depths
  • ★☆☆☆☆: All depths
  • ★★☆☆☆: Stratum 2 and deeper
  • ★★★☆☆: Stratum 3 and deeper
  • ★★★★☆: Stratum 4 and deeper
  • ★★★★★: Stratum 5 and deeper

Alchemy Machine

An alchemy machine.

Alchemy Machines are located in Haven, Moorcroft Manor, and Emberlight. Haven has several Alchemy Machines which can be found in Guildhalls, the Bazaar, Arcade, and the Town Square.

Apart from regular Alchemy Machines, several special Alchemy Machines also exist on Cradle. Instead of reading the recipes a Knight has learned, such machine stores unique recipes within, that a Knight may use as if it were his own. Special machines allow Knights to craft items they are otherwise incapable of producing themselves. So far there are three special Alchemy Machines known to the Knights:

The cost of crafting an item depends on its star level, and generally doubles with each additional star.

Alchemy Cost:

  • ★☆☆☆☆: 200 crowns/ 10 energy
  • ★★☆☆☆: 400 crowns/ 50 energy
  • ★★★☆☆: 1,000 crowns / 200 energy
  • ★★★★☆: 2,500 crowns/ 400 energy
  • ★★★★★: 5,000 crowns/ 800 energy

Usually, crafting is much cheaper than buying the item pre-made from a vendor, and also gives the added possibility of creating a unique variant (see below). Pre-made items increase in price as their star level increases. Thus, items with a high star level are generally cheaper to craft than to buy pre-made.

Price from Vendor:

  • ☆☆☆☆☆: 150 crowns
  • ★☆☆☆☆: 3,000 crowns
  • ★★☆☆☆: 7,500 crowns
  • ★★★☆☆: 35,000 crowns
  • ★★★★☆: 100,000 crowns
  • ★★★★★: 300,000 crowns

Unique Variants

A unique variant Jelly Helm with an increase to shadow defense.

When crafting an item, you will sometimes be informed that you have crafted a "unique variant." These items have a stat bonus.

The variant's bonus is described in the tooltip and marked with a star icon.
