− | + | If the costume has an icon in the "name" column, you will be directed to a page with more information about that single costume. If the name doesn't have an icon, then there are more color variations of that costume than shown, with the "visual" column displaying an example (some bending of this organization explained below) and you will be directed to a page with a list of variations.

This table is generally sorted by Order of Release. Other color variations released "later" do not factor into the DoR order - only the first form made available does. For example: "hunter" and "surge" Fur Caps just fall under "Fur Cap," and Fur Cap stays where it is in the list according to the first date of release (Hunter's), even though the Surge and others were released after Hunter. | This table is generally sorted by Order of Release. These sets may or may not be official sets. Many costume sets are "implied" sets, so the costume list might seem ambiguous for many items. Individual pages will have set visuals if the items are confirmed to be in a set. For a rudimentary list of costumes in sets, check out this list. This does not currently include recolors. |

+ | Several costumes have multiple color variations. Including all of these variations in the list would make the page very long, inefficient, and not as useful. Individual costume pages will usually have all available color visuals.
If the sorting seems to be behaving oddly after you've sorted multiple columns, that's normal. The table is attempting to remember your previous sorting, but this can be weird sometimes. Simply refresh the page to reset the table. | If the sorting seems to be behaving oddly after you've sorted multiple columns, that's normal. "Type" (a.k.a "shape" or "form" etc.) is what the item looks like compared to other costume items. This allows users to find things that look similar for costume designing, collecting, or other purposes. "(Subtype)" further clusters more similar types together when sorted. | "Type" (a.k.a "shape" or "form" etc.) is what the item looks like compared to other costume items. "Group" is roughly based on when and/or where the item comes from, and is often named after a relevant event or Prize Box. +
+ | Notes are phrased using as many of these terms that apply, so they can act as a sort of "tag" that CTRL+F can find, as well as sort relatively okay in the notes column, but they read like a description (instead of just being a pile of tags). This is much like the accessory list in function. Unlike accessories, costumes have their own official descriptions, but the content in the "notes" column describes the physical aspects of the item in a sort of "faux" user description, while official developer descriptions usually provide tidbits of game lore.

*Costumes (Expiring): A list of expiring costumes. | *Costumes (Expiring): A list of expiring costumes. |
Revision as of 10:40, 23 March 2015
A Costume is an aesthetic item. It does not have combat statistics like Helmets, Armor, or other gear. Most are randomly obtained from Prize Boxes.
Contents
Notes
Currently, costumes only come in the form of "helmet" or "armor."
Once acquired, a costume can be equipped from your arsenal - they're in the "costume" arsenal tab. Armor and helmets with combat statistics can be equipped as costumes from their own arsenal tabs (if they are equipped as costumes, they don't factor into your combat abilities). Costumes have no effect on your abilities in the field. Like armor and helmets, many of them have accessory slots.
Like other items, a costume will bind when equipped. Unlike other items, once a costume is bound it cannot be unbound.
Costumes are often released in commemoration of an event or promotion. Some of them are expiring costumes (celebrations come and go), but most of them last forever. There are several costume sets as well as single "hats" and "suits" and so on. Many costumes come in several colors, such as the Field Cap, or "forms," such as the Scale Helm vs. the Iron Dragon Helm. It can be difficult to find what you're looking for due to this variety, which only increases as the game updates and we discover more about Cradle. Below is a list attempting to organize this variety.
List
Below is an elaborate sortable list. This show/hide contains information about how to use the list efficiently.
About the List
Navigation Click on the costume name or visual example to navigate to individual costume pages with more information about how to get them and other useful things. If the costume has an icon in the "name" column, you will be directed to a page with more information about that single costume. If the name doesn't have an icon, then there are more color variations of that costume than shown, with the "visual" column displaying an example (some bending of this organization explained below) and you will be directed to a page with a list of variations. Finding Things This table is generally sorted by Order of Release. Within-groups, items are listed helmet first, then armor, so that the table sort of shows them as a "set" when sorted with the Group column. Several costumes have multiple color variations. About the Columns: Terms used in the Type, Group, and Notes column are semi-official at best. They are not really part of gameplay, being mostly derived from colloquial use, naming convention, and popular effects.
"Helmet" means "helmet costume" and "Armor" means "armor costume." Costumes cannot be equipped as actual gear, but gear can be equipped as costumes.
"Type" (a.k.a "shape" or "form" etc.) is what the item looks like compared to other costume items. This allows users to find things that look similar for costume designing, collecting, or other purposes. "(Subtype)" further clusters more similar types together when sorted.
"Group" is roughly based on when and/or where the item comes from, and is often named after a relevant event or Prize Box. This allows users to find things that have a similar theme, are in a collection, and so on. "(Subgroup)" further clusters distinct groups-within-groups. Group and Type can sometimes repeat in each others' columns, this facilitates sorting and searching.
Notes are phrased using as many of these terms that apply, so they can act as a sort of "tag" that CTRL+F can find, as well as sort relatively okay in the notes column, but they read like a description (instead of just being a pile of tags). This is much like the accessory list in function. Unlike accessories, costumes have their own official descriptions, but the content in the "notes" column describes the physical aspects of the item in a sort of "faux" user description, while official developer descriptions usually provide tidbits of game lore. CTRL+F Terms
There are many terms used to "tag" these items. Scan the list to get an idea of what to look for. In general, CTRL+F will find:
Organization To whom it may concern (this section is mostly for editors): A costume will get its own slot in this list as well as its own page if it qualifies for all three of the following:
Otherwise, it is slotted into a relevant list on the relevant page. The current exception to this is the Jack o' Bombhead Mask, because the rest of the bombhead masks considered together make #2 difficult to keep consistent. All bombhead masks have slightly different shapes and textures than each other. An example of this process in action: The Serene Brigandine: 1) it has its own description compared to other "Brigandine" costumes 2) it has unusual coloration (ancient) compared to other "Brigandine" costumes, even considering that the Serene Brigandine shares naming convention and its icon uses "recolor" format 3) it is in a very distinct group/subgroup, "Ancient"/"Serene" =It gets its own slot in this list as well as its own page. If a costume seems "unique" in form and/or group, leave the data entry a blank. There needs to be more than one kind of that sort of categorization to warrant a group or form to be sortable:
This makes this list different than other lists like the Accessory list, but that's fine - different types of items have different properties with lots of different kinds of associated information. Accessories don't have as much information in-game as costumes and other items do, so it's easier to put more accessories onto a single page. This isn't prudent when an item has more information. The organizational rules of this list do not consider expiring costumes or the variability of prismatic aspects. You can basically pretend that expiring costumes or prismatic aspects do not exist when updating the list on this page. |
